Obviously I hope the man is not and won't have any serious pain as he goes through this...that's just natural human compassion.

What I don't want, and this will sound really Dio-ish, but I don't want to enter the 2009 season with a "Win it for Jim" type mentality.  Especially if he's not around.  He won't be looking down from anywhere, won't be looking over the defense from above, and certainly won't have any effect on the play of the defense.
I believe I've passed the age of consciousness and righteous rage
I found that just surviving was a noble fight.
I once believed in causes too,
I had my pointless point of view,
And life went on no matter who was wrong or right.

I disagree moderately about him not having any affect on how they're playing.  McDermott is still going to be running his defense plus J.J. undoubtedly had at least a passing say in every defensive player acquired on the team.

But otherwise, yeah, I could do without all the phony platitudes.  The EMB is farging unbearable right now.

Geowhizzer

I could see the players having that sentiment in the locker room, as many of them had close relations with JJ over the years.  Beyond that, though, it would ring a bit hollow.

He appeared in my cereal this morning. I ran over the box of Count Chocula and picked up seven yards.

The man. The myth. The legend.

Going miss that sour face on the sideline

Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

i will say, the zone blitz, and his utilization of Dawk made this D amazing for much longer than anyone would have thought.  Only Kiffin and JJ kept up their game consistently.
