Reopen the orphanages, ...better yet, make it humiliating to have bastich children

Unemployment is an insurance policy all workers pay in to, it's not an entitlement

Invest in yourself, start a business, flat screed LCD TV's, fancy cell phones, and new cars are not important. Start a business, easy credit is the death of the middle class.

Want to save money and get the country out of debt, a good start is to stop crap like this.

From just one Florida hospital.

QuoteIn 2007 the Florida Hospital Association estimates there was a $100,000,000 in cost for illegal patient care.

I donate when I can to atheist groups. I don't know if they're charities, but certainly non-prophet organizations.

POTY

Both the rich and the poor have a certin percent that abuse the system. Some rich find illeagle ways to further their wealth, or they prey on the less fortunate to make more cash. There are also a certin percent of the poor that spend their cash on stupid things like fancy cars or clothes etc. instead of the basic needs. The pimped out vehicles and gear I saw some of the kids wear and drive when I worked at a school district on the south side of chicago that had 85% of the families under the poverty line was insane. Both sides of the $$ need to get their shtein together.

Those welfare bitches need to stop having kids too.  Don't forget that.

David Letterman.... still relevant.

QuoteDavid Letterman roughed up ex-Gov. Blagojevich in his interview with him tonight. Here's the first exchange after his introduction:

DL: "Why exactly are you here? Honest to God..."
RB: "Well, you know, I've been wanting to be on your show in the worst way for the longest..."
DL: "Well, you're on in the worst way."

Ok, but I don't think these sorts of things are as common as you think. Also, maybe if these operations didn't cost a zillion dollars to begin with then maybe these people wouldn't be fleeing the country. Hell, if I had to pay a million and a half dollar fee I might flee to another country too.

The cost of the operation in Canada (or other first-world nations)? Zero. If you're arguing that our hospital fees are so damn expensive principally because of Central Americans then you might want to adjust your tin foil hat.

No, the cost of that operation is paid in higher taxes.  And you pay those higher taxes, whether or not you use the service.  And you pay for those using the service that don't make enough to pay their own taxes.

I'm not necessarily against a national health care system of some sort.  Just don't make it out like we won't be paying anything for it.  We will, all along the way.

That was one hospital in Florida. Of course, there are no other hospitals in the United States that have the same type of situation, or worse. There is absolutly no truth to the state comptroller of Texas estimating that illegal immigrants cost hospitals $1.3 billion in 2006. Heck no.

Quote from: ATV on February 03, 2009, 10:08:17 PMIf you're arguing that our hospital fees are so damn expensive principally because of Central Americans then you might want to adjust your tin foil hat.

Who said anything about what you pay for health care? No, if I wanted to argue that, I would have said it. The facts are that illegal immigrants cost this country billions of dollars every year, and we are paying for it with our taxes. Or do you think all that money just appears out of thin air? And you think I'm the one wearing the tin foil hat. You're comments make no sense at all.

QuoteState legislatures across the country are seeking to limit the costs to taxpayers of illegal immigration, including health care benefits. In May, Oklahoma lawmakers restricted illegal immigrants from receiving most public benefits; other states, such as Nebraska, are seeking to follow suit. A bill introduced in Indiana this month would make hospitals report how much they spend on illegal immigrants.

ATV

Well how do these other countries handle illegal immigrants with their universal coverage? I assume they don't cover them, or at least have some program/policy to handle them.

I'm not saying we shouldn't have a better system for handling illegal immigrants. Sure, yea, we probably should. Great. Our entire health system is broken though and I think that in the larger scheme of things, in the broad view, the money lost on illegal immigrants is relatively insignificant.  Put this supposed 1.3 billion number (I don't trust it) with the broken HTML link in perspective - Even if it were true then why should we waste even five seconds debating illegal immigrant hospital policy when trillions of our dollars have been fumbled and our entire economy is in crises? It's like debating what flavor bubble gum we should use to patch a crack in a dam when the whole dam needs replacing and/or modernizing.

The Right Wing's objective is to make sure you/we keep our blinders on, to make sure we keep having the same old race-based fearful conversation about stupid shtein, so that we maintain the business as usual, i.e., so that we, for instance, keep filling the pockets of big insurance companies, keep buying unreliable gas guzzling cars that break down, keep buying cheap plastic shtein from Wall Mart, keep buying overpriced medications, keep feeding Exxon, keep finding varieties of brown people for our weaponry to slaughter. It's all about money. Always has been.
