Alright, I know I'm not the smartest knife in the drawer, but I have a problem. You see, I can find absolutely no reason for gas prices having been $4 in May and June when they have now dropped 50% to $2 a gal. 6 months later. No other consumer product fluctuates in price at such a rate.

Can all you boys and girls say.............price gouging???

This past summer, every time gas prices went up, oil companies set records for profits made by any other corporation ever in the history of the United States. Now, everyone is all tickled that prices are down around $2 a gal. Let me tell you all something, they are still fifty to seventy five cents a gal. too goddamn high.

Something has to be done about this goddamn ripoff of the American people.

That it was allowed to happen is a travesty. You'd think at some point the FTC would step in but every investigation or report they file is in favor of the oil companies. I don't see how raising prices during peak use helps consumers but they seem to think otherwise.

Sharpest.  Sharpest knife in the drawer is the cliche you were looking for.

Well, the proof is in the porridge, I guess.

Here's another thing. Petroleum based building products such as roof shingles have gone up in price 75%. When the price of a barrel of oil came back down, did the price of shingles come down?? Hell no!! And it won't either, not as long as the log jam in the housing industry continues. Companies such as GAF, and IKO aren't selling many materials, so when they do get sales, they are going to make what they can. No matter that they were caked off enough 5-6 years ago when building was at it's peak to make it through times like this, they are still going to rape the American consumer.
you have to look at what prices were when they produced the products, Shingles are probably within the past 3 months, whereas gasoline, takes about 2 months from being purchased in barrels to the pumps i believe

A lot of shingles can last a year, actually. I know this because every bundle has a lot number on it, and just because it says the same color on a bundle, doesn't mean it's the exact same color. If it came from a different lot of shingles, you'll see it on your roof after they are installed. Lighter colors not so much, darker colors, yeah.

Most lumber companies change lots by the year.

But, companies haven't been producing as much product, because there simply hasn't been the demand. Lumber companies have been keeping less than half the stock they normally would. It can take a week to get a certain type of product that isn't in stock. That tells me it's being produced on demand.

Biscut is probably right, but I think there are a few more factors that figure into prices of petroleum based materials not going down.

Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

We have a financial advisor who comes on our show on the weekends who said the same thing.  Not permanently... but it could touch there for a little while.

I paid $1.43 around the corner earlier today.
