Ike is now forecast to hit the Freeport area. That is SW of Houston which means we will be on the storm surge side of things. I live in the NW part of town so I would likely not have to evacuate. The SE and SW parts of town see the most flooding, mostly the SE since the ship channel and Galveston Bay are in that area.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

Keep your eye on it, Phreak.  Weather Underground is calling it to be at least a 3, probably a 4 when it hits.

Excerpt:

QuoteHurricane Ike is intensifying dramatically. The central pressure has dropped 11 mb in just four hours, and stood at 947 mb at 7 pm EDT. The latest Hurricane Hunter data show that the pressure is continuing to fall at a rapid pace. The winds have not caught up yet to the pressure fall, and remain at Catgeroy 2 strength. The satellite presentation of the hurricane has improved markedly, as Ike has walled off the dry air that was bothering it, and has built a solid eyewall of 9 miles diameter of very intense thunderstorms. The appearance of Ike on infrared satellite loops is similar to Hurricane Wilma during its rapid intensification phase, when Wilma became the strongest hurricane on record. Like Wilma, Ike has a very tiny "pinhole" eye, but the storm is huge in size. Ike has a long way to go to match Wilma, but I expect Ike will be at least a Category 3 hurricane by morning, and probably a Category 4.

Yeah, the boss sent out an e-mail today telling people if they need to leave to go ahead and roll out. I am still unsure if I should go....

Your boss says go ahead and leave and you want to stay?

Dumbass.

I heartily agree with PhillyGirl.

On your way out, slash the boss' tires so he's stuck there.

I'm leaving...I was unsure because I didn't know if my boy was going to be back in San Antonio soon. That is where I am staying; at his place. Especially since they are now saying it is bigger than Katrina.

General_Failure

Hopefully this is the last time anyone ever has to say "Everything's bigger in Texas." Yes, I'm hoping the state gets completely submerged forever.

The city is in full panic mode now. Wall to wall TV coverage.

Although as of right now the only highway really clogged is 45 North coming from the Galveston area. I will be heading out I-10 West towards San Antonio. I'll probably leave in 90 minutes or so.

Get ready to get farged in the ass at the pump.

Paid $3.35 on Tuesday and $3.59 this morning. All refineries have been shut down.

just drive to Dallas and wait there till Mon night.   you know I'll be there!

That is probably why he'll wait to get there until the last minute.

Well...

I left Houston at 430. I arrived in San Antonio at 1030. I was thinking "this isn't so bad" as I went out I-10 west past Katy because we were moving at about 70. That is normally a bad traffic spot anyways. But oh how wrong i was. Right after Katy it farging crawled until about 60 miles outside of San Antone. It took me 2 hours to go 26 miles at one point. And this wasn't as bad as the people going north.

Last I read was Houston is going to take a direct hit.

Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.
