I paid 3.99 this morning for regular in Baltimore city.

my 1992 motorcycle get 44mpg, riding it like hell.  don't know how to ride it any other way, so I can't actually boast 50mpg but I'm sure it's possible

Gas is 3.95 - 3.98 today in Lancaster

I heard that the amount of energy and chemical wastes that go into making these special batteries for hyrids is a big environmental issue. anyone ever hear this? my bro-in-law swears that its a big problem

I saw it in Chester County over the weekend at 4.17

Here in Houston I paid 3.89, but it ranges from 3.86 to 4.09.

It costs me about 110 to fill the tank, but work pays for my gas.

Munson

Highest I've seen it while out to get gas around here is 4.03.

Right now it's hoving around 3.97 or 3.98

perhaps you could explain sd's reasons for "disliking" it as well since you seem to be so in tune with other peoples minds

My 2000 Accord V6 gets around 28 on the highway and 20 in the city.

I have a 2004 V-6 and I get around 23 highway and 20 city....what the farg? I ride most of my mile on the highway.

I am guilty of going an average speed of 80mph...but damn....I'd think I'd be happy with 28 mph.

I just had to change the transmission on mine...I ran it into the ground. I average about 50 to 250 a day when I drive....probably around 120 a day is about right...when I'm not jerking off to the internet.

stop driving 80 and you'll see a big improvement.
keep your tire pressure at the manufacturer's recommended level
don't run your a/c unless you really need it (clients in the car)
don't push oil changes beyond 3k
lead foot acceleration is wasteful, even if you are only pushing it up to 60...get there less rapidly and you'll use less gas

that pretty much sums it up right there.  although, in chuggie's defense, he does live in la and if he doesn't do 80 on the highway then he'll probably get run off the road.

Great tips except for this one.  Car A/C's are very efficient these days, so while mileage is slightly better without the A/C and WITH THE WINDOWS CLOSED, running the A/C is actually more fuel efficient than opening the windows.

But yeah, if you like to rock the windows up and A/C off, have fun with that.

Diomedes

Fair enough.  But if you're running an older car -- mine's an 89 -- then it's good advice.  And it always stands to reason that a major auxilary system which runs off your primary power source is going to sap power/efficiency.

I never run the A/C in the morning commute.  It's usually in the low 70's and comfortable enough.  Plus I'm usually stuck in pumped in air in the office all day anyway, so some fresh air is a nice way to start the day.

And when I say I get 28 on the highway, that's a long commute MPG figure.  Start full, do 75 MPH until the tank runs out and you get 28 MPG, not on the highway/off the highway.

plus for every mile you drive with the air on its like driving two miles as far as the wear and tear on your engine...i put the air on in my car about twice every five years just so the ac gets some usage...but even in the hottest most humid days i never use it
