If the remarks weren't as publicized as they were CBS wouldn't have pulled Imus, I love how they wait till things explode to can him. If they had felt the remarks were inappropriate they would have pulled his show immediately instead of bowing to public criticism.

I don't think it had so much to do with public criticism as it did with the fact that companies started pulling their commercials from his show.  And when your show isn't making money, it ain't getting back on the air.

This had way more to do about money than it did with cbs or msnbc reacting to public criticism.  They made the right decision but for the wrong reason.

MSNBC and CBS take away his audience when he's doing a fund drive for sick kids.  Tell me that's not worse than what he said.

farging pathetic..
I hate Imus but this is the who St Peter's church/Janet Jackson all over again.  Just a farging horrible move by CBS and MSNBC especially with the telethon going on.

I can't say I'm upset he's gone.  He is a bigot afterall and they ought to be ostracized.  So yay for the public lynching of the token scapegoat bigoted white guy.  One down, 50 million to go.

In other news, 30 million people smoked pot yesterday.  19 million of them were white, 11 million black.    Thanks to diligent policework funded by the wildly successful federal "War on Drugs" campaign, there were 13,000 arrests for possession of pot yesterday: 3,450 whites and 9,550 blacks.  Mission Accomplished indeed.

In other other news, two white youths were shot to death in a hail of police gunfire in Old Saybrook, CT.  Following up on a report of a loud houseparty where underage drinking was suspected, the police encountered a late model Saab sedan pulling out of the driveway.   They commanded the driver to stop the vehicle, which he abruptly did.  Then, as the police were telling the suspects to get out of the car, one of them "made a movement as if to reach for a gun," according to the Saybrook police chief.  The officers drew their sidearms and fired, in fear of their lives, shooting more than 40 bullets at the car, and striking the passengers a combined 13 times.  Both suspects died en route to the hospital.  An investigation is being undertaken by the police departmen.  Local community leaders are upset.  "You don't see this happening in black neighborhoods," complained neighbor Stacy Tisch.  David Duke was said to be en route to help the families through the troubling days ahead, and to lead the protest efforts.  More on this breaking story after these commercials....

broken leg..that's the least of it.

from NYTimes.com article:
Quote...underwent surgery on Thursday night after a car accident in which he broke his left leg, sternum, collarbone, six ribs on each side and a lower vertebra, state police and other government officials said.
...
He was flown by helicopter to Cooper University Hospital in Camden, where he received seven units of blood and a metal rod in his leg during a two-hour operation that ended about 11:30 p.m.
...
The state trooper who was driving the Chevrolet Tahoe that was carrying Mr. Corzine was flown separately to Cooper, and asked that no information about his condition be released. -- [Classy, and no joke.  Trooper isn't the story, doesn't want to be the story.  I approve. -- Dio]
...
...Mr. Corzine was on his way to Drumthwacket, the governor's mansion in Princeton, for a meeting between the Rutgers women's basketball team and Don Imus, the talk-show host who was fired on Thursday for making a racist and sexist remark about the players. -- [and the circle of life goes round and round, round and round --Dio]
...
Mr. Fuentes said he was unsure whether Mr. Corzine was wearing a seatbelt; he often does not.  -- [It's a known fact that the state leader is a scofflaw??  Meanwhile, cops use the seatbelt to pull over and search normal people??  fargers. --- Dio]

must have been an awful wreck.

I don't know where you pulled that stat, but it speaks volumes about the evil that the war on drugs inflicts upon this society. Makes my farging skin crawl.

I know that the gawd Peter McWilliams had thrown out some very similar stats and I was wondering if they are still up to date.

According to the US Census Bureau, the US population in 2000 was 281,421,906. Of that, 194,552,774 (69.1%) were white; 33,947,837 (12.1%) were black; and 35,305,818 (12.5%) were of Hispanic origin. Additionally, 2,068,883 (0.7%) were Native American, and 10,123,169 (3.8%) were Asian.

Of the 265,100 state prison inmates serving time for drug offenses in 2002, 126,000 (47.53%) were black, 61,700 (23.27%) were Hispanic, and 64,500 (24.33%) were white.

and for a look-see at how much each race uses drugs, here's a handy chart: http://www.oas.samhsa.gov/NHSDA/ethnic/ch4tabfiles/ch44tab.htm
The data is more than ten years old, but the numbers can't have changed much.  Blacks come in at 13%, whites at 12%.  Call it even.  And if you don't like this data, look some up for yourself.  The facts are the facts: People get high.  Especially Native Americans.  I guess we should've just killed them all rather than leave 2 mil or so to waste away in desert reservations and eat/drink themselves to death on casino welfare.

=========
these figures are what I'm talking about.  so with about equal drug usage between races, and with whits vastly outnumbering blacks in general population, how exactly is it that the number of blacks incarcerated for drug offenses is double the number of whites??
