The game I'm most eager for right now is Spore.  Sounds cool as hell.

I've had playstation and playstation 2 since i was a kid, and I was fully prepared to get PS3, not right away but maybe a year after it comes out.

however, i'm constantly reading about bugs and problems that Sony is having with the new system, and with the release dates being pushed back a few times, and the rediculous cost when it first comes out., I'm thinking of just getting an Xbox 360.

Anybody have any opinions one way or another?

Not one way or the other per se...more like, in the same boat.  My XBOX died recently.  I'm not buying another one, and I'm not sure I can hold out for PS3.

before, my first PS2 died, i bought another one instead of an Xbox because i was used to the controller, and i had all my games for PS2.

but now, since it's moving up to a new system and new games, i'm not sure what's keeping me from just getting an Xbox 360.

as far as PS2 and Xbox went, how did the two compare?

I was a ps2 guy but got tired of the loading times and got an xbox.  Liked it so much i got the 360.  The great thing about the 360 is its compatibliy with computers and windows media center, and that its built for online play.

I had both, preferred the latter.  The PS catalog is so much bigger and more diverse, I really wanted the Sony system to be better, but it just didn't perform as well.  I was figuring the PS3 would leapfrog over the 360, and if I can hold out for it, I'll have the huge bonus of being able to play the entire Sony back catalog.  That's big imho.

But my resolve is flagging.  360s are available in the store now, and my console is dead now.

i don't keep many games in my catalog, im always buying and selling on ebay, so that's not a huge thing for me.  but even when i got my PS2, I didn't find myself playing my PS games anyway, due to the difference in graphics.

but i'm thinking the same as you Dio, that PS3 will be better than Xbox 360 and if I settle for 360, I may regret it later.

then again, rumors of PS3's retail is $600-$700, when you can get an 360 premium for $400.  is the technology of PS3 going to outclass 360 by $300?  i find that hard to believe.

I love Sid Meier's Civiliazation games, been playing them since the first one.  Is that from the same company?

Go ahead and post a review.

Galactic Civilization is more in the vein of the old Masters of Orion games. These types of games are like the civ games, which I love, but were never as good. The original Orion was the best version but old with crapy graphics. Orion II and the Star Trek versions were painful but I played them for some reason. It is a turn based management game just like the Civ series and has its roots with Microprose like Civ.

Star Dock is the company that has made this new game and they are living up to the games potential so far.  Basically you attempt to build an empire and compete against other cultures and races throughout the galaxy. The game is very flexible and has a great look and feel to it. My main complaint with Civ and games like this are how cumbersome it feels as your empire gets larger. Managing lots of cities or planets and keeping up with their needs starts to feel like work. So far this galactic game is a breeze though I've only colonized 5 systems. I think planetary management will be much easier and the interface is easy to get used to. The galaxy map is awesome. Zooming in I can see the planet earth spinning in detail moon and all.  Just getting my feet wet but I had a hard time stopping as I kept saying to my self.... One more turn.... 3:00AM rolled around and I finally knocked off.

I'm such a loser!

The thing that makes PS3 so much more expensive is the Blue Ray DVD aspect. I don't know much about it, but its pretty new technology and it's supposed to have amazing clarity. My guess is as blue ray technology becomes more available, the price of the PS3 will come down. Who can wait though 2-3 yrs?

I'm pissed at Sony for this, the 600-700 price is waay too much, my PS2 still works good, so I'm cool with my old games for now. I am seriously thinking about getting the Wii, but the previews I saw so far, the graphics look like shtein. not any better than PS2 now. Another negative is there will be no-online play at release, they are apparently working on this and that capability will be available sometime in 07. The controller looks amazing though and watching people play it, it just looks fun.

I'm still up in the air. I'd rather play 300 or 400 and then put more money torwards a better TV, than just drop 700 on a game console. Hell I'd rather throw 700 on a new mini mac and get more out of it. Just doesn't make any sense to me right now. Maybe if I was rich....

The thing about consoles is the exclusive games. If you find a couple of games you really want and they're not on the other systems, that's the direction you should lean towards.

the graphics should be fine on the system, none of the game previews were ever played on the finished product. they wont be high res...but they will be progressive scan, which for most people (maybe not hard core people) will be just fine. it will also keep the game prices down. and unless you have an HDTV...none of it means a damn thing.

and the online play thing is wrong. they will have online play. and it's completely free. any time you may be charged for it, will be because the game publisher charges, not nintendo.

i've been following it pretty closely, as i will probably get one. spending $500+ on a game console just isnt something i dont think i will ever do.

Nintendo's got their Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Pokemon exclusives. Sony's got Final Fantasy, Metal Gear, God of War, and Grand Tourismo locked up like a 3rd grader in the crazy janitor's closet. Microsoft's got Halo (also on PC), Gears of War, The Elder Scrolls (also on PC), and Fable (pointing and laughing).

There's probably a bunch more, but I stopped paying attention and went back to PC games.

The BIGSTUD

I haven't heard anything about PS3 bugs as of late. IGN gave it a test drive and liked it a lot. But all launch shipments usually have some bugs in some of them.

My gripe is the controller. They got rid of the rumble pack which was important and I hate how the analog sticks are right next to each other and convex with slippery rubber material. If anything, just at least change the damn analog sticks to something more comfortable with a non-slippery rubber. But it saves Sony money I'm guessing so they won't change it.
