Moulds Suspended?

There were reports out there that the Bills had suspended Eric Moulds because he blasted Mike Mularkey on the sidelines in Miami on Sunday for the piss poor playcalling (or was it because Lee Evans had 3 TDs and Moulds had nothing?).

Now they're saying that Moulds has not been suspended but he will be TO'd on Sunday after being "excused" from practice on Wednesday and Thursday.

QuoteMULARKEY SAYS NO SUSPENSION OF MOULDS

Bills coach Mike Mularkey denies that he has suspended receiver Eric Moulds.

But something clearly is up.

Mularkey acknowledged that Moulds has been excused from practice on Wednesday and Thursday.  ESPN's Chris Mortensen reports that Moulds is expected to meet with Mularkey and owner Ralph Wilson on Thursday, and that Moulds will be on the inactive list for Sunday's game against New England.

"It's crazy.  It's a lot of chaos," running back Willis McGahee said.  "You don't know what to expect right now at this point."

Our guess is that someone with ability to, you know, read and comprehend English realized that the Terrell Owens arbitration ruling is not a blank check to suspend without pay any player who pisses off the head coach during a given game.  The Owens suspension was upheld because of the unique nature of the situation; in Moulds' case, there's no reason to believe that he has been a chronic problem.

Regardless of Moulds' immediate future, these events don't bode well for his long-term status with the team.  His salary is set to quadruple in 2006, from $1.5 million to $6.08 million.  In 2007, he's set to make $7.25 million.

Then again, if there's a new G.M. and/or head coach in Buffalo come 2006, the attitude towards Moulds could change.

This, along with his contract, is a good indicator that he will be cut loose in the off-season. So those of us who are hoping to see Moulds come to Philadelphia could be happy.

The Eagles went after him hard prior to him re-signing with Buffalo a couple of years ago. So that tells you that Reid likes him. The only obstacles would be;

1. He'll be 33 years old

2. Does his outburst mean he's just unhappy with things or does it mean that he doesn't dig the Losman-Evans connection? When Holcomb was playing he was locked on Moulds. Now that Losman is back he's back to ignoring Moulds and locking onto Evans. But would this hurt his chances with the Eagles in the post-TO era?

3. How much money will he be looking for?

MDS

I remember the Eagles offered him a contract back in his last free agency period, but he chose to stay in Buffalo. I'd take him, but not for much. Heck, maybe we can get him and Price and they can re-create that amazing year together. If Bledsoe can do it, McNabb can.
Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

The BIGSTUD

I'd love Moulds, but we have to hope he's having a bad year because of his situation and not him breaking down. Give him a 2 or 3 year deal. I doubt he'd take a 1 year deal.

Wouldn't mind seeing it, but seriously doubt it, 'cause:

1. He'll be 33 before next season--way past the Joe Banner "Logan's Run" litmus test.

2. Does anyone seriously believe the Eagles would bring in another team's malcontented WR after this season?

Sorry to say it, but whomever comes in next will be an altar boy. Come to think of it, I do seem to remember this guy who used to point up to God a lot...    :paranoid

I was thinking the other day that Keenan McCardell has stayed productive and would be a nice # 2 WR for next season, despite his age...but, then remembered he was also a hold-out two years ago, so he's probably not on the Eagles short list.

The BIGSTUD

The Eagles won't have an issue with holdouts. I mean Westbrook held out. That doesn't make you a malcontent. I've never heard of issues with Moulds outside of this year. If the Eagles want him they will talk to people in the Bills' organization to get an idea of what to expect.

For whatever reason, Mularkey BENCHED him in the last 3 quarters after the Bills took a 21-0 lead. Then they had the ball at the 3 and threw an interception on a first and goal. From what I read, that's the only thing he criticized, plus why he didn't play the last 3 qtrs. If you remember, Jon Runyan criticized Reid after the 2003 NFCCG saying the Eagles should have run more. I think there's a misconception out there that Reid doesn't like to be criticized. No one likes to but Reid seems to take it in stride.

Feva

Mularkey benched him for the same reason that they're deactivating him.  Moulds blew up on him on the sidelines.  Moulds was upset because they weren't running the ball... and clock... after they'd built up a big lead.  Turned out to be right.

Moulds has no history of being a malcontent in Buffalo... he actually has a rep of being a total team player there.  I dunno if I want to bring him to Philly though.  He's even older than that one guy we're not playing... and his best years are apparently behind him.  IMO... if he hits the market this offseason... he'll end up commanding more money than what the Eagles would be willing to offer.

I doubt he'll get a big money deal.

He'll get a deal thats pimped like a fat deal (like TO) but easy to walk away from, IMO.

I would go hard after him or Walker and I'm starting to lean towards Wayne. But he scares me and could very likely be another Peerless.

Feva

I'm not saying he's gonna land big money, but I just think there'll be someone out there who will offer more than what the Eagles would likey throw at him.  IMO, they'll see his age... his low production... and even this little suspension blip of his... and that'll prevent them from seriously pursuing him.  Especially in light of the mistake that was "that guy".

But again... if Moulds were to land in Philly... I wouldn't be mad at all.

I'd love Walker if we were able to pry him away this year (if not, then we better get him in '07)... and I wouldn't mind Wayne or even Randle-El.  I just think in the Wayne/Randle-El cases, we'd just have to go with the approach of "a bunch of good WR's" instead of "one dominant guy and everybody else".

Wayne/Randle-El
Brown
Pinkston
Lewis
McMullen/McCants/whoever

... I can live with that.

QuoteChris Mortensen of ESPN reports the Buffalo Bills sent a T.O. type letter to wide receiver Eric Moulds informing him the team will pursue part of his signing bonus if there are any more incidents similar to those which occurred last week.

Mortensen said Moulds got in hot water because he took himself out of last Sunday's game after Lee Evans caught three early touchdown passes, he refused twice to return to the game; he said that he's not required to do what the coach tells him to do, he listened to music instead of the coaches at halftime; and he failed to show up for a meeting with coach Mike Mularkey on Monday.

He sounds like a great fit here.
