Let me get this straight, in six months -- six months -- without any legislation, no congressional funding authorization, no research, no contracts, no reactivation of nuclear engineering and manufacturing facilities, no new weapons programs, no new testing programs, no new launching systems or existing system upgrades, no procurement process, NOTHING, not even an executive order, Trump somehow managed to "renovate and modernize" our nuclear arsenal?

Huh...?

I mean, six months ago, Rick Perry, head of the Department of Energy, didn't even know he was in charge of nuclear weapons.

So, HOW did this happen?

I call shenanigans.

Back to NK for a moment...yes, sanctions and diplomacy will work. It has for how long now? I'd argue the sanctions are working because that is pissing that fat farging clown off.

It would help if we had a state department staffed and able to handle issues though.

state department has nothing to do with NK....we dont even have an embassy there

and their "state department" is one guy

when it comes to NK the SD staffing problems while real in general have no effect on NK relations and are nothing more than a liberal talking point

I disagree with that. Even if we don't have an embassy there the state department employs professionals who play a major role in forming international policy. This is especially necessary when your president don't know North Korea from North Dakota. But instead the department is unstaffed and the president just says words impulsively any time a camera is pointed at him.

My daughter was scared shteinless yesterday.  I could tell she was upset before she went to bed, and I tried to reassure her that cooler heads will prevail, but I don't even think I believe that right now. 

We have a family disaster plan in place just in case of weird shtein happening down here weather-wise (tornadoes, tsunamis, etc) but what do you say to your 17 yr old child when the prospect of Armageddon appears live on CNN?

I honestly just said, there's nothing we can do but hope for the best.  The sad thing is I'd actually rather be in a primary target zone like D.C. because at least it would be over in a millisecond.  If this does hit the fan, pray for the "survivors."

The ladyfriend was in the same place yesterday. I have a whole spiel for her about how unlikely this whole thing is, and the history of NK threats and the reasons that they make them... but it was couched with the obvious truth that Trump brings us closer to the edge than we ever need to be because he doesn't have any farging idea what he's doing. Clownshoes McHoydagrab needs to go, right farging now.

The only thing that can hopefully come from this is that China and Russia somehow decide to do something productive about NK.

NK's threats are standard. Poking a dumbass with a stick is more scary because Trump might actually do something.

China knows this and this should be scaring them to no end. I know the 6-party talks have been fruitless, but everyone chilling out is the best thing and it might be brought on by China. They've done nothing so far. Now, they risk having a barren backyard full of radiation nearby if they don't act.
