don't have an anti tax stand dope. but try again.

fact is thanks to politics, city council going to grab money from those who don't have enough to begin with to bail out those who run the city into the ground.

just make sure you buy some cokes when you're down at the games in philly. if not you obviously hate kids.

city isn't run into the ground...its had an amazing renaissance in the last ten years...in fact the fund has gone from negative 150 to 70 in just the last several years...whats run into the ground is schools/education and the health of its citizens...which this tax (admittedly on a small scale) will go towards helping

the tax is on the soda corporations not the people....yes soda prices probably are going to go up a few cents...but its certainly not going to make anyone poor who still chooses to buy it...it def isn't "grabbing money from those that need it"...as sd said the tax is also now going to be on diet drinks as well...which makes it far less regressive if regressive at all

again if you don't agree with vice taxes I get it...theres a valid argument there....but at least know the facts of something before you attempt to discuss it much less dismiss it out of hand

If the mayor were a Republican igy' stance on all this would be different

The taxes they're collecting come from the company consumer in the end.  They can portray it any way they want.  This soaks the poor.  Period.

but again like sd mentioned already the tax now includes any drink with an artificial sweetener...which now covers all kinds of drinks versus ones that were tilted towards poorer communities....this far lessens the regressive nature of the tax if not outright eliminates it...but even before when it couldn't really be argued that it wasn't a regressive tax at least the money was (and still is) going to help these same poorer communities much more than any other

I don't vote by party I vote by issue and belief....its just that the republican party stands for not a single thing I believe in...but really your point is meaningless since a republican mayor would NEVER propose a tax like this...and unlike a lot of things the right is against this is actually one that doesn't make my blood boil...theres a legit argument to be made against vice or grocery taxes

Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

Kinney pulled a Martin O'Malley with the "It's all for the Children".  It never is for one specific group, any tax increases ultimately end up in the slush fund to fix the former's mistakes.

actually its in his budget as such....as line items....so if the budget gets passed it is for what he says...unless you believe that all government budgets are worthless and in that case might as well move to manila or somewhere...or just have no government

Exactly.

I'm privy to how budgets work.  You'd be mortified if you knew the bullshtein that goes on in every aspect of the process.   Right/left... Makes no difference.

And I'm 100% pro-taxation too.  The roads gotta get paved like Jay said, but the waste and grift in government spending is appalling.
