For the record, I never said that I don't trust the government.

I dont know....it kinda sounds like you dont

Because new tax revenues are always spent exactly how they are intended.

Politicians and bureaucrats take advantage of vices to create new lines of revenue. They tell us how they will help us all, while they line their pockets

slowly bleed the populace to support an ever-growing, money sucking political machine

Those are complaints of excessive, abusive government, not all government in general.

ice grillin you

again if you are against vice taxes that a valid opinion...not one I agree with but theres arguments to be made

but it sure sounds like a major reason you oppose this is because you don't trust the government with tax money period

Surprise surprise! The residents of Philadelphia were lied to regarding the soda tax. The first 4 years of the tax will not go to Pre K and other programs...nope, it'll go to bail the city out of debt. Anyone who thinks they'll appropriate the funds towards anything other than the city's debt after the 4 years is up is smoking something. The tax ALSO applies to drinks that contain artificial sweeteners. So it's not just sugary drinks. I moved out of the city 4 years ago, best move I ever made.

smeags

only a fool wouldve thought differently.

I can see kinney's re-election campaign now.

this time I swear, the soda tax revenue might, possibly, in theory, go to fund school programs. some day.

I hate to say I told you so, but. . .

Did you see the commercial with the preacher talking about the soda companies pitching in a bit more and how sugary drinks target poorer communities and all this money is going towards Pre K? Now the money is again targeting poorer communities to bail out the rich and powerful who put the city in debt. National embarrassment.

ice grillin you

its not the first four years....in the first four years 40 million of it will go towards the city fund....the tax will generate 91 million a year....so in the first four years something like 15% of the money will go to the fund....not ideal like kenney wanted but if he didn't throw this bone to some of the holdouts on the council it wouldn't have passed at all

that's not how politics work....one side comes up with a proposal the other side refuses then they meet somewhere in between

you wouldnt pass a soda tax (or probably any tax) for any reason no matter where the money went...which is fine that's the opinion of a lot of people but it also kinda silences anything you have to say as far as the distribution of funds from this tax

in fact you don't know shtein about shtein when it comes to this tax....you believed sd when he just said all the monies would go to the city fund in the first four years just to further your anti tax stance....that some fox news educated MA shtein
