(AP) PHILADELPHIA The city of Philadelphia is moving to close down a newsstand near the Liberty Bell whose owner allegedly insists on selling pornography.

He also posted a sign threatening to rape anyone who objects.

City officials say Mouhammed Shaukat was warned to stop displaying pornography at his stand at Sixth and Chestnut streets because of the hundreds of tourists who pass by.

Officials say Shaukat refused and then posted a sign using the f-word and threatening to rape those who complained.

Shaukat showed up at a City Council committee Wednesday and was grilled by lawmakers Frank DiCicco and Frank Rizzo Junior. Shaukat replied: “It’s just a writing.”

The committee approved a bill to close the newsstand. The measure now goes to the full Council.

If you live in Philly, please go to this man's news stand and purchase some pornography.  Or, if you're a prude, some Pepsi.  Whatever you do, SUPPORT THIS MAN.

It cracks me up how righteous some people get about porn. OHMYGODPORN! Half of the fargers who complain about it go home and rub out some baby batter to kiddie porn (Foley, Mark) and then get back on their soapboxes and complain later on again.

This is one of those "proper time and place for everything" stories.  I love teh pr0n just as much as anyone but I don't think this guy should be peddling it next to a major tourist attraction.  I just think it's poor taste.

Since when is poor taste illegal?  What law is this guy breaking?  Is there a law against being distasteful?

Did anyone else see this guy on the news lastnight? He has a heavy Arab accent and if you weren't looking you'd think he fit the profile (dark complexion, dark hair, brown eyes etc.), but he's really a pasty white guy with blonde hair. It was quite the shock especially since his name is Mohammed.
