Ren to me seemed too much like some of the spoiled, snot-nosed middle schoolers I teach.

Eagles_Legendz

Yeah he's a millennial villain but more realistic in his petulance than Anakin in the prequels.

Just got back from the theater and, all in all, thought it was very well done. Not going to get into detail about it so that I don't spoil anything for those who haven't seen it yet, but I'll simply say that if Disney/JJ Abrams decided to remake Episodes 1-3, I would fully be on board.

smeags

Yeah, Lucas absolutely ruined the anakin character between the horrible casting to the even worse dialogue.

phillies will be under 500 this year...book it

General_Failure

The Clone Wars cartoon and cgi show actually did a pretty good job with fixing the terrible choices made when making the prequel movies.

The man. The myth. The legend.

carol - todd haynes strikes again...unbelievably good period piece love story...gotta be one of the best of the year...rooney mara probably the most underrated actress in the game

8/10

star wars - solid effort...not sure what abrams could have done to do a better mash up of the past and future....incredibly well made and absolutely gorgeous....its gonna win a shtein ton of technical awards...felt more reboot of the original than it did a sequel to the 3rd one...the major difference to me btwn this and the first 3 which really hurt it was that the original ones were adult movies that children loved where this was a childrens movie...at times felt more chronicles of narnia or some shtein than star wars...the big take away for me was daisey ridley...for one thing she is absolutely gorgeous...but holy crap was she good in it...basically carried it all by herself...it was impossible to not take your eyes off her

5/10

My issues with the film:

Unoriginal story. It's basically episode 1 with a few twists and a new villain. - 100% on point

The new death planet or whatever was just lame. The way they destroyed it was even lamer. - you hated it because abrams gave a not so thinly vieled shout out to solar power regarding the weapon...I do agree the destruction of it was horrible done

Hated the sound effects. I like the sound of the traditional lasers. - didn't even notice this but im not a sw nerd like you

Didn't like the new stormtroopers. They were too all over the place. The shoot outs were ridiculous and every time a storm trooper was shot he'd fly 40 feet through the air. - i thought they were fine but you ruined it for me cause I noticed it everytime they flew after getting shot...although I think it happened less than you remember

Kylo Rhen. What a horrible Sith/Dark Jedi whatever you want to call him. He reminds me of some emo dude. The whole slashing his lightsaber at consoles when he was angry was so lame. - i could have lived with the anger outburst if he never took his helmet off...by far the worst part of the movie is this dood having an awesome wanna be darth vader voice with full british accent then removing his helmet and its literally the guy from girls...not the actor who is from girls but the character...worst casting job ever...btw the second worse thing about the movie was the new emperor or whatever he was called...i hated that he was a monstrous hologram

It's great they decided to reinvent force powers. Now they can pull exact data out of peoples minds. When did that start to happen? They can also stop Lasers apparently too. - more nerd stuff that i didn't even notice

Didn't read any spoilers but saw the death scene coming a mile away. Total non shocker. - yeah so obvious...but i think that's like i said because the movie was made for seven year olds who wouldn't see it

How does Han Solo go from smuggler, to saving the galaxy, back to smuggling? Really stupid to have him back in that role. - he explains it...i bought it

My biggest pet peeve is with the ending lightsaber battle. So Kylo Rhen is on a Anakin level, Rey just heard of the force about an hour ago. But she figures enough out to beat him in a saber duel? When he went for the saber and she got it instead it was such a non SW woohoo moment it made me sick. And why was the planet having a sudden earthquake? It's not like they destroyed the planet yet. - i agree she learned and basically mastered the force in like two minutes...but i was ok with it...what stood out to me way more was her literally admitting she didn't know how to drive the millennium falcon then being able to drive it better than han solo in his prime on her first trip

Overall I just felt ehh with the movie. Didn't feel like a Star Wars film to me. - totally agree

Eagles_Legendz

I agree with a good portion of that.  I think the character of Ren was great pre-mask removal.

Ridley is awesome.  Snoke seems like a dumb villain but we'll see.   I did think it felt like Star Wars though.  Also Ford was very solid in it.  Didn't sleepwalk through it like I thought he might.

ice grillin you

id like an explanation as to why his british accent completely disappeared without the mask

Rome

Saw it again yesterday in IMAX.

So much fun seeing it with nerds like me.   And the IMAX did make a huge difference.  The other theater wasn't bad but man it was excellent.  The audience's reactions were hysterical too especially during one pivotal scene.

SD

Ridley carried the film. I felt the other actors...even Ford were amateur compared to her

SD

And Snoke was lame as hell...the Emperor was just creepy as hell. Snoke was some ridiculous giant hologram that made no sense.

Eagles_Legendz

To be fair, they haven't tried to explain Snoke to make sense yet.

Also my bet is he's actually fairly small and that's some overcompensation.  I just wish they went with a different look.

the emperor dood and several other things such as the bar owner chick/thing made it feel like lord of the rings or something...but not star wars....completely understandable and was obviously done on purpose for the new generation of fans

there was tons of stuff that fed the old heads to make them happy...both obvious and little shout outs like the trash compactor joke...problem was most of the time it seemed forced...as i said before clearly the movie was made for a really young new audience and that's why it didn't feel super star warsy to me

its really why in a perfect world abranms should have done the prequels...imo he wasted his talent here being caught in between making an homage movie and a new story...not that I even blame him as he was in an almost impossible spot

Two questions

Are there any ewoks ?

Does jar jar binks find a way in this movie ?

If the answer is no to these the movie already wins.
