I didn't watch all of those shows; didn't want to or have time to, but I think the top 5  or so shows on that list for me are pretty impressive. More impressive than any other channel I can think of.

Eagles_Legendz

I think most people would agree that after the wire and sopranos ended HBO struggled for a while, but the new content they've put out the last five years has been pretty good.

MDS

some of those shows are very small scale, niche things that in some cases weren't even hbo originals, they bought them from elsewhere.

but:
GOT
boardwalk
true blood
silicon valley
treme

is about as good a list of 5 shows as youre going to find from any network. i tried to mix in populist hits with critical darlings. not every show is going to be for everybody. 2 of those shows arent for me. but anyway keep digging that hole, hinkie.
Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

they would agree with that

their strategy lately has been to go for tentpole type shows....things that appeal to the masses over trying to win awards, though they still very much value that and produce a ton of content each year aimed to win statues. then they produce those shows at a very high quality, and wallah, people are entertained.

Silicon Valley is an atrocity....and treme was enjoyable to me but it wasn't great  and isn't the least bit memorable

no matter your tastes they have had less than five really good/great shows in the last ten years...that is not good....also it's completely unfair to compare HBO to any other station in this time period...it's either the networks who can't make shows like HBO or its cable channels who don't have near the volume of shows

Am I the only one that doesn't even get HBO?

General_Failure

I understand the concept but I don't pay for it.

Honestly, you all watch way too much television. Sooner or later you'll have to realize that most of it is outright garbage, and the real entertainment value is in youtube videos of people trying to review things after eating hot peppers.

The man. The myth. The legend.

GF - you don't pay for anything, except in viruses.

I'm just trying to figure out how people have so much time on their hands to watch so many television shows.  Good on them, I guess.

I haven't watched a show regularly in five years.  Between jobs and kids, there's just not enough time.  And when there is time, there's always sports to watch.

Aren't you off all summer?

 :-D

So, I'm watching the BattleBots reboot on demand...goddamn awesome. Missed this show.

First show of the season and one of the bots goes up in flames and flying across the arena.

perhaps you could explain sd's reasons for "disliking" it as well since you seem to be so in tune with other peoples minds

lol

i don't think ive ever watched more than two shows that are on simultaneously and a lot of times its binging on one at a time....it takes minimal investment...and I don't think I'm out of the norm...only weirdos like the lil guy don't watch sports and watch like 10 shows at the same time

Normal people watch 5 hours a day of bad sitcoms and basic cable reality shows about people working blue collar jobs who may also be rednecks.

ive considerbly cut down on what i watch.....theres also binging. for example right now the only thing i watch week to week are the hbo shows and thats essentially out of habit and hate watching

Currently taking vacation - broiling in Williamsburg.  Hotter than F'n Florida.

When I get back, trainings and prepping for my own beginning of the year training will take up most of the next four weeks.  Then it's back to the salt mines.

But, you know, Christie calls is a part-time job for a full-time wage....   :-D
