I'm not really sure if this is needed, but going through all the threads not only angered me, but I had no idea what round who was taken and it's just a mess. I somewhat organized the picks and put forth my own worthless opinions based on the reports...and I am eagerly awaiting all your worthless opinions as well
2nd -Trevor Laws - Hopefully can step right in an help with d-line rotation.
2nd - DeSean Jackson - Much needed addition to return game. possible game breaking abilities in returning and at wide out. fav pick in years!
3rd - Brian Smith - Really tired of these picks...how many do we need. Prob makes the team on ST? Needs to add weight regardless
4th - Mike McGlynn - Is he Runyans replacement of the future? Prob not, but reports say he's got a nasty attitude and I like that in O-line, next to loose skin...
4th - Trade for Lorenzo Booker - From a team with zero returners to, 3-4. I'm sort of confused with this deal, but hey, another undersized RB I am okay with as long as he is used. Booker our future kick returner and DeSean our PR? Maybe DeSean will be that good a reciver where they wanted another good returner for insurance.
4th- Quintin Demps - Like this pick. Possible return skills as well. Reports all sound good on him, and to have Dawk teaching him is only an added bonus for him.
4th - Jack Ikegwuonu - seems like he got all the skills, sounds like he needs to grow up. maybe covert to FS? Gamble, but a nice gamble IMO. Hoping for a speedy recovery and a swift kick to the balls to get his shtein together
6th - Mike Gibson - slight chance of making the team...him and Scott Young will suck it up. needs to hit the cheeseburgers, light for a NFL G
6th - Joe Mays - hopefully slides in as a ST hitter
6th - Andy Studenbaker - won't make team
7th - King Dunlap - won't make team
I have no idea how these guys will pan out over the next couple of years.
That said, I love getting the extra first rounder next year. And I really like that they picked two guys at the top who have an actual chance at making a serious contribution to the team this year. I also like the deal for Lorenzo booker. I have a good feeling about Demps, but that's really all it is.
Everything else is a huge question mark.
laws - future starter. a pick.
jackson - immediate contributer in the return game. after last year's fiascos this gets an a+ pick.
smith - not thrilled with this especially since they could have taken dajuan morgan here. c pick.
mcglynn - possible starter in the future. not crazy about it, though. b- pick.
booker pickup - great potential here. excellent value for a fourth rounder. a pick
demps - i liked this one a lot especially since wagner was passed up. b+
ikeguonu - not crazy about it but getting a 1st/2nd round talent in the fourth isn't bad even if he won't play in '08. solid b here.
gibson, mays, studebaker & dunlop are all practice squad guys. no steals here and several reaches. overall c- grade for the four picks.
overall draft grade i'd give a "b+" because laws, jackson & booker will make an immediate impact on a team that had all 22 starters set before the draft began.
There's an article in the Daily News today where Reid says the Eagles got 3 players that can contribute next season. Seems to be met with some criticism but is there any doubt Laws will play on D, Jackson will at least get some catches and his impact on ST should be immense, and Booker is a bit of an unknown but he's versitle as a receiver and RB.
If the Eagles had drafted Jackson at 19 and Laws in the 2nd no one would be as critical. I believe the only reason people are mad is because they traded out of the 1st round. Otah would have been a bad pick. Anyways I don't know much about any of the second day guys except for what I read and what the experts say so being critical is dumb. The only problem I have is with the amount of picks, I mean...package some of the 4ths and 6ths and move up or get picks for next season.
they traded cleveland's 6th for a 5th next year. the compensatory picks can't be traded, so they had to take someone in those slots.
1st - trade was by far better than anyone they could have taken in the first round...i might root against carolina as much as i do for the eagles next year
2nd - trevor laws - bleh...should have taken one of the wr's that was still around (kelly or sweed) or calais campbell would have been a nice pick here
2nd - pimp d - is there a team in the nfl that upgraded a position better than the eagles did at return man
3rd - brian smith - this guy is too small to even play linebacker in the league and yet andy claims he gonna play end...way too high for him here
4th - lorenzo booker - i like this move quite a bit...reminds of a less stout brian westbrook...i loved this guy in college and he has some sick moves...you can never have enough talent at the skill positions and he upgrades that area quite a bit
4th - mike mcglynn - todd herremans days are obviously numbered and i suppose even as a rookie this cat will be "in the mix" for the job this summer
4th - quintin demps - love this pick....yet another good athlete...quintins on his way....
4th - jack ikegwuono - with numerous 4th round picks why not take this guy...i think hes a safety not a corner in the league and will have to put on some weight to pull that off but love the fact that hes a huge hitter while demps is the more athletic guy tha can run around...they covered all basis at safety with these two guys...lets hope they pan out better than cj gaddis
6th - mike gibson - practice squad and hit the weight room for a year then get "in the mix" next year at OG
6th - joe mays - what a friggin beast...i wish there was a bunkley like combine photo of this guy...his upper body is ridiculous...could be a phenominal special teamer...ultimate wedge buster
6th - andy studenbaker - who?
7th - king dunlap - first cuts

They took 9 players yesterday. 9. How many of those picks actually make the team? I'll set the o/u at 4 considering Ikewhateverhisnameis gets sent to the IR.

just because you play next year doesnt mean you should be
Here's my fire and brimstone:
First round trade - Whether they keep it or use it as a bargaining chip that extra 1 next year is real nice. A.
Laws - I'm going to give this a B. This was a position of need and the kid was ridiculously productive in college against good competition.
Jackson - A.
Smith - I obviously don't know shtein about this kid. Seems like a typical Andy Reid reach. Who knows what to expect. C.
McGlynn - I like this pick because eveyone says he is able to play the entire line and has the ability to step in at RT when Runyan dies of old age. B.
Booker pickup - Was productive with minimal touches on a terrible team last year. Can obviously be useful to the offense and may be able to return kicks which is good. Worries about his wardrobe too much. F.
Demps - This was my second favorite pick of the draft. Dude has tons of athleticism and was really productive. B+.
Ikeguonu - He won't do shtein this year and has an extensive injury history but lots and lots of talent. It's impossible to grade this. C.
Gibson - Project. D.
Mays - Will help on special teams and shtein. C+
Studebaker - Whatever. F.
Trade to Browns - Excellent. They should have done more of this. B.
Dunlap - Dude doesn't give a lot of effort and isn't in shape and lost his starting job as a senior. D-
It seems likely that Ikeguounu will be IR'ed while Gibson, Studebaker and Dunlap just get cut. So I see 6 of these clowns making the team right now.
by all accounts mcglynn can not be an offensive tackle in the nfl
i don't know why but your characterization of them as clowns had me rollin'.
well you and I are obviously reading different scouting reports. Or maybe the report I read was about another of the myriad OLs that they drafted. Either way, I'm right.
2nd -Trevor Laws - None of the film is particularly impressive. He seems fine, but his "ceiling" isn't too high. Hopefully, he'll be either an average starter or a good 3rd DT long-term, but that's about the best possible scenario.
2nd - DeSean Jackson - BONERS. For return value alone, he's a great pick. All production on offense is an absolute bonus (but I expect some).
3rd - Brian Smith - I like athletic guys that can get after the QB - as long as that's what Jim Johnson's actually going to use him for. Gocong was great at getting at the QB, so they drafted him in the 3rd round to cover tight ends. Dumb. As long as they use Smith as a pass rusher, this pick could be good.
4th - Mike McGlynn - He passes the look test. Could play RT or LG down the line or be the 6th OL. I like the pick.
4th - Trade for Lorenzo Booker - So, apparently this guy isn't really into returning. The Eagles got him to use him on offense. I suppose I like it every bit as much as anyone they would have selected with the pick.
4th- Quintin Demps - This is my 2nd favorite pick of the draft, easily. A secondary with guys that have instincts and skills toward making big plays is exactly something the Eagles have been missing out on. With all due respect to the "safe" guys like Sheldon Brown and whoever's playing opposite Dawkins, I want guys that are a threat to step in front of any route and take it back for 6.
4th - Jack Ikegwuonu - As I said yesterday, this is a great pick, because it's basically the equivalent of trading this year's 4th for a 2009 2nd.
6th - Mike Gibson - Meh. I would rather use these picks on high ceiling guys. This kid will never contribute to the team in any meaningful way... except maybe to edge Scott Young out of a roster spot. Still, meh.
6th - Joe Mays - Fine. Good pick for the 6th. Probably won't make team, but if he does, could contribute on special teams. Best-case is that he could be a two down backup MLB.
6th - Andy Studebaker - They're trying to do with this kid exactly what they did to Gocong. He was a great DE against crappy competition, so they're drafting him to play LB. Super. That said, at least they only used a 6th on him. He will probably languish on the PS at best this year.
7th - King Dunlap - Good pick for the last round. He has/had a lot of potential and sucked ass this season. Did he have a nagging injury? Is it a lack of motivation? Did his grandmammy die? What do I know? Either way, he passes the look test for a LT. While he probably won't be any good, he has a CHANCE to be a diamond in the rough. That's all I can ask from the 7th.
I give the draft a solid B. It would clearly be a C without snagging Jackson and trading for Booker. It would be D at best if they didn't get Jackson and also traded away Lito for peanuts.

check his videos...hes unbelievably slow and has terrible feet...unless you really hate their qb pray the eagles dont ever put this guy against any outside speed rushers
Day 1 - Laws, Jackson, aquired Booker, raped Carolina = A
Day 2 - Demps and Igownkdownsodiens are solid pickups but I would have prefered Morgan over Demps. McGlynn could be nice depth this year....who knows if he'll be a solid starter though. Smith was not only a reach in the 3rd round, it was a wasted pick. Everyone else is mostly fodder. Overall = C+
Overall grade = B
Eagles didn't get nearly as much value out of day 2 as I think they could have......either with smarter drafting or packaging a few of their (non-compensatory) picks for improved positioning this year or even next.
based on last year's picks the eagles saved $8.3M dollars by picking jackson at 49 versus 19 and $5.8M in guaranteed money. not that it matters, obviously. just thought i'd mention it.

and Johnson to long term dealz!
um, holla?
Laws = B
Jackson = A+
Smith = C
Booker = C
McGlynn = C-
Demps = B-
Ikegwuonu = INC (but if he recovers, this could be a steal)
Gibson = D
Mays = D
Studebaker = D-
Dunlap = D
Loved the Jackson pick (I was on the bandwagon since September), Laws makes sense since it means no more retreads like KVO or Reagor, Booker will do what Moats was expected to do, and the rest are unknowns at this point. Looks like the end of Mahe, Moats, McDougle, Rodgers, Paschal and possibly Reagor and GLew. Getting an extra #1 and #5 for next year helps too. B-
booker a "c" for a fourth rounder?
He reminds me of Warrick Dunn without the 1000-yd potential. Can't really get too excited about him because he's a backup...
he's better than hunt and his inclusion on the team means an almost certain end to the ryan moats era. that alone warrants a b grade.
moats was gone last year before his injury...i think it might mean the end for the buckhalter

Seriously, they got a very nice group of offensive skills players. Mendenhall, Sweed, and then the next Randle-El in Dixon, who they got pretty late.
Stop hanging out with Steelers fans.
it was ballsy because we got a 10 minute lecture before walking out on the practice field about what not to do and one of the major things was don't talk to the players or coaches.

he's as much of an uncertainty as Ikegwuonu
1st - Couldn't have been happier with what they got for the 19th pick. Hopefully Carolina shteins the bed next year.
2nd - trevor laws - typical Eagles pick nothing too exciting, but he looks like he will contribute from day 1.
2nd - desean jackson- haven't been more excited about an eagles pick since I don't know when, this guy gives me boners.
3rd - brian smith - if he contributes on special teams this year that would be a plus, wouldn't expect much else.
4th - lorenzo booker - love this pick up, hopefully he can contribute on kick returns and give Westy a breather.
4th - mike mcglynn - solid pickup
4th - quintin demps - like his ballhawk mentality wish he was more of a hitter, that is probably why he is a 4th rounder and not a 2nd. Reeds days on the Eagles are numbered.
4th - jack ikegwuono - one of at least two rookies that will get stashed on IR. I like this pick up, hopefully signing him is not an issue. If he gets healthy they could have steal.
6th - mike gibson - will have a tough time making the squad, though I want him to because he is an unfortunate looking SOB.
6th - joe mays - what a friggin beast...i wish there was a bunkley like combine photo of this guy...his upper body is ridiculous...could be a phenominal special teamer...ultimate wedge buster

That some point was when they won the super bowl a few years ago. closet steelers fan's came out of nowhere. black and yellow shtein everywhere. then the next few years they sort of stunk it up, and it went away. typical
The Trade (1) - Nothing could be finer than to be in Carolina for a Panther football game (and subsequently taking their first round pick in what appears to be a really nice trade).
Laws (2) - I hate Notre Dame and every insufferable moron that went there/likes the team because they have some semblance of Irish heritage and the team's nickname is the "Fighting Irish.". It seems excessive to pick another defensive lineman, but this was expected. Meh.
Jackson (2) - Most likely will get hurt but still completely worth it. If he Jesus helps him stay healthy this could be quite solid.
Smith (3) - I have no farging clue.
Trade for Booker (4)- It's worth a shot, they've needed someone to spell Westbrook for years and have been content with friggin Buckhalter. This dook probably ain't the answer, but it's better than taking another white lineman from Utah.
McGlynn (4) - Who farging knows.
Demps (4) - Quintin Mikell + Will Demps = this icehole
Ikegwuono (4) - Seems like a smart pick, but we said the same thing about Jeremy Bloom.
Gibson (6)- I think he writes the temple football blog.
Mays (6)- OHMIGOD HE'S GONNA BE SOOOOO GOOD WAHT A AWSOME STEAL!!2!!@1
Studenbaker (6)- Miserably fails the name test and is therefore dead to me.
The King (7) - Passes the name test with flying colors and therefore replaces Akeem Jordan as my "boiiii."
Your boiii is getting cut next week. At the latest.
The same things were said about Jordan and that child is still breathing. Never doubt an offensive lineman named King. Never.

I laughed at this.
1st - The trade - If you don't like this move as an Eagles fan, you're farging retarded. There the Eagles sat, prepared to take a so-so O-lineman... and here come the Panthers begging to be raped and bailed the Eagles out. That 1st rounder, along with Lito... gives the Eagles more trading firepower than anyone else incase one of the big WR's shake loose at any point this offseason.
2nd - Trevor Laws - I like this pick. He's a workhorse on a D-line at a "top" school against top competition. This was an underrated need for the Eagles because they rotate the D-line out so much and now they don't have to rely on some retread like Kimo, Reagor or Ian Scott (yes, I know he's not here anymore).
2nd - DeSean Jackson - Hell yeah.
3rd - Bryan Smith - I wish they'd stop reaching for these small school guys all the damn time. At least as early as they do. It's the 3rd farging round... where they should still be after potential starters and contributers. He does seem like he can rush the passer though so like someone else said, if they actually use him for that purpose... it could be a decent pick, I guess.
4th - Lorenzo Booker - Very nice pickup. I actually liked him last year, but figured there was no way in hell Andy would go after him. Another quick back, who can catch the ball as well... and with him and Westbrook on the field at the same time... PICK YOUR POISON! I love that they got him with only a 4th too.
4th - Mike McGlynn - I think he was picked to push the hell out of Herremans at LG... not RT, and I like the fact that he's described as "extremely" agressive. Could be another mauler.
4th - Quentin Demps - Yes. Very nice value pick. Ballhawks, ballhawks, ballhawks! Can never have too many... and if he gets the INT... he's got a noze for the endzone. They say he's not too physical, but hopefully Dawk can beat that out of him.
4th - Jack Ikegwuono - I-ken-go-on-and-on about him. I'm torn on this one. I like that he was rated as a 1st/2nd round talent before tearing his knee up... and they're having the foresight to grab him now. I hate that we'll have to wait till 2009/10 to see the dividends... or to find out that he can't fully recover.
6th - Mike Gibson - PS or out on the street.
6th - Joe Mays - He'll have to make his impression on ST's (which I think he has a chance to shine there) to stick around because the Eagles seem to really love their LB's at this point. Guy looks like he was carved from stone though.
6th - Andy Studenbaker - We've already made all the car jokes known to man about this kid... what else is he useful for?
7th - King Dunlap - Definitely got the build to play LT in the league. Is the talent there? Don't think so.
QuoteI-ken-go-on-and-on about him.
i laughed at this. and yes, i'm ashamed about it. a lot.

They supposedly had him ranked neck-in-neck with Derrick Harvey. I either read/heard/ or saw it on TV somewhere.
that's one thing that bothers me about this regime.
99 experts could have someone ranked within 10% of each other in terms of ability, yet reid & heckert always seem to know better than the other 99 and act accordingly.
it's crazy.
I agree. They should count their collective opinion as about 1/4, and then combine the evaluations of Mel Kiper, Jr.; Mike Mayock; and of course Chris Steuber in order to come up with their big board.
i wasn't referring to those dopes, dummy. i meant professional scouts & player personnel guys from other teams.
cause they are pompous aholes and wanna have the opportunity to say to everyone "we told you so" and they also wanna look like genuises which is why they forevere are trying to hit on undrafted free agents
this whole draft was complete weakness and the only thing that saves it is the excellent trade they made with carolina but really that has nothing to do with the players they got this year
About 26 out of 30 teams use something called Scouts, Inc, (I think) for the draft which is a private scouting firm that provides ratings and information. 2 of the teams that don't, and maintain a larger scouting staff are the Patriots and the Ravens. These two teams, Ravens especially, always kill in every '5 years later' objective draft analysis. They consistenly get more value out of their 2nd day picks than almost anyone.
the eagles use this scouting service, BTW.
all scouts inc stuff can be found on espn.com...so in other words most of the nfl gets their player info from espns website
The extent to which each team uses independent scouting varies, though. It makes sense to use it as input, but it's not like they don't make changes where they've done some of their own evaluation.
For instance, Andy Studebaker was not that high on the Scouts, Inc big board.

Sorry, not Scouts, Inc., some other service only available to NFL teams:
QuoteYou want to hear an amazing stat? Entering last season, 74.2 percent (46 of 62) of the players Baltimore drafted since 1999 were on an NFL roster. And yes, that's best in the NFL. Why so much success? The Ravens are one of six teams that do not belong to scouting services used by the rest of the league. Instead, their scouts do all the work. And then there's 36-year-old Eric DeCosta, the director of college scouting. He's the NFL's version of Theo Epstein (sans monkey suit). DeCosta has been with the team since 1996, learned under Phil Savage and Ozzie Newsome, and when Savage left for Cleveland, he was promoted. And apparently, he's pretty good at his job.
