I got a stern reprimand from my doctor this morning regarding the results of recent bloodwork, specifically the results of my liver enzymes.
I was curious, how many beers do you consume each week & have you ever had it affect a blood test?
Last night I had 6-7 beers, 2 rum and cokes, and a shot of absynthe. thats normal for a thursday.
just stay away from doctors and there will be no problem.
Usually 4-5 beers during the week, and that jumps considerably on Friday and Saturday. I usually drink 6-8 on average at least one of those nights, and 4-6 on the other.
And yes, twice in my 20 years of drinking the doc has advised me to slow down. My donated blood was once rejected because of alcohol related enzymes.
I routinely lie to the doctor about drugs, but not booze. I just ignore what they have to say about the drinking, if anything. I don't trust them not to rat me out to the cops. Even if they don't rat me out themselves, I'm not keen on the fact that I get high being noted on any medical document that could some day be turned over to someone.
I have between 1 and 3 very strong gin&tonics almost every weeknight, with a thumbnail sized bowl of nice grass. sets me up right.
weekends are about the same unless I'm out. then i probably have between 6-10 drinks, plus whatever else.
I'm a lightweight. I like to show up to work on time, ready to do my job.
I used to drink beer more often, these days...if I have a beer or two a month, that's a lot. Generally for overall health/fitness reasons. I'm sure that (among other things) makes me tragically unhip, but there you have it.

havent been to a doctor in at least 10 years and probably much longer than that

The other night I drank 7 beers while sitting on my couch and watching a movie with my ladyfriend.
This past saturday night I drank for 6 hours with SunMo. I then got up at 7am and started drinking immediately.
I regularly drink at work (we have a fully stocked fridge).
When I have guests in town, we usually start drinking at brunch and don't stop until we run out.
There is absolutely no way for me to guess how much I drink each week. But it's a lot. Functional alcoholism is awesome.

during the week, i'll have a little scotch or a beer after dinner. we'll drink wine with dinner regularly.

I prob drink at least once during week, can range from 2- whatever. Like last night I probably had 8 beers and 2 shots, but I usually don't get that hammered on weeknights. weekends are a different story, im usally drunk friday and saturday nights, sometimes drink on sundays, depending on how zesty i feel from fri and sat.
once in college i had to go to the doctor because i broke out in some weird hives, she asked me how many drinks i had the night before and i lied and said a few, she just started laughing and guessed that i had probably 20 or more. i admitted it.

I may have a beer during the week maybe with a dinner. Usually with a sandwich.
Weekends, if I'm out, I'll have either a couple of mugs of beer, be it Japanese beer w/ dinner, Sam Adams, Bass, Newcastle or Guiness depending where I'm at.
The only time I drink beer in the morning is if I'm on a trip or gone for a weekend. Usually Rosarito Beach, Mexico. It's wrong not to wake up and not have a beer for breakfast.
Otherwise, guessing by the standards set by this thread, I don't drink. :-[
I work p/t at a bar which means customers usually by me a drink or two while I'm workiing. On the nights I'm not working, I sometimes spend at the bar I work at drinking my pay away. Thus, the circle of life.
Other than the money I make in tips, I don't think I've ever actually been paid for the work I do. It just replenishes my tab.
So let me get this straight, you're an active duty full time marine staff sargeant, and you work a second job?
And I bet you tell your recruits that the Marines offer financial security...

I don't work the second job to help make end's meat. I make more than enough on my military salary to pay all my bills, put some in savings and still have a few bucks left over for fun. The p/t job is mostly just to give me something to do. It's fun, puts a little extra cash in my pocket and drunk chicks get to take me home with them and do things they'll regret in the morning.
Don't usually drink on the rare occasion I go out to one of the lame bars here in NoVa. Then I'll have maybe 1-2 beers. On the weekends I generally drink a lot more a few beers and some hard liquor.
I drink usually 5-6 beers a night. One or 2 nights a aweek i'll start out with a beer and have 2 or 3 glasses of JW Red. Weekends is always double digits, depends if we go out or not if im hitting the 20 mark.
I wonder what my Liver looks like after 10 years now of drinking. Every once and a while i do have pains where my liver is, but i just drink the pain away :paranoid

Sundays not during football season, I don't have anything.

I don't drink hard liquor unless I'm influenced by peer pressure.
The doctor told me I should have nothing during the week & maybe 1 on the weekends. I actually got angry with that suggestion.

I read somewhere that you can survive on 5% of your liver if it ever shrinks to that point. I don't know about the quality of life you will have...but life you will have! I don't know if at that point though if it stops regenerating or not.
Lately I'm not drinking beer for dietary reasons. Well, maybe one in a week's span. Sometimes a glass of wine, maybe once or twice in a week. And for tailgates, well, liquor is quicker. Still, I'm a big guy, and I rarely drink enough to really be wasted.
Now during the summer, with pool parties and such, I'll spend a Saturday slowly enjoying considerably more beer. But that's a ways off...
I've been drinking like a fish for the better part of the last 12 or 13 years and my liver feels fine. Or it's dead. Either way, it doesn't hurt so who gives a crap.

I probably only average 12 beers a week or so right now. Maybe 15. I will also occasionally enjoy a 7&7. My liver enzymes have never shown any problems.

2 cases of free beer a month. When that runs out I drink real beers like Guiness or I go with wine or maybe a mixed. I recently had a Boddington's from a widget can and it was pretty awesome.

I had the same warning roughly 2-3 years ago during a physical, since then I've slowed down a bit. During the summer I'd probably drink a 12 pack a week then another case during the weekend. These days - mostly for health reasons, I've slowed down. Now I'll drink about a 12 pack during the entire week and that's more than enough for me. What also helps is that I'm not subject to random piss tests meaning I can substitute some green for some brew.

Like RJS it runs in my family but oddly no one is a full blown alchoholic(waking up every day to vodka for breakfast) or violent. In highschool my friends would come over to family parties and got freaked out how much the Thomas family put down. :evil
Honestly Zanshin, i drink out of habit. Come home, grab a beer, put dinner together, have more beer, watch tv, more beer, xbox 360, more beer, pillow.

I probably drink about 10-15 beers a week. This is a fairly new development, though. My senior year of college I was drinking 3-4 nights a week, 10-15+ beers (or the equivalent in liquor) a night. Capped it off the last week and a half of school when I got absolutely blackout drunk 8 nights out of 9.
I don't drink often, but when I do I binge drink. Probably not the healthiest thing to do.
But I like to make myself believe I'm not that bad because I just toss some everclear, fruit punch, and mountain dew together, drink it really fast and do it again until I get smashed. Therefore I get really drunk off not a lot of alcohol. The problem being that the not a lot of alcohol is 190 proof. Oh well.
Beer I don't usually drink unless I'm playing beer pong or trying to keep myself drunk/buzzed after I can't find liquor anymore. I love being in college.
Better yet...I miss senior week. Good week.
take advantage of it shteinlips. i wish i was back in college. beast ice 12 packs daily from latimer's deli. college was a drunk fest. not only did I get served pretty much at every corner shop, there was a bar around the corner that housed underagers and I had a fake ID. those were the dayz

I don't give a shtein if people don't drink. That's their choice. When they get judgmental about it, well, that's when I have a problem.
We went to a birthday party for one of my daughter's friends at a country club last year and a few of us had cocktails during the party. Nothing major, just a bloody mary or two. I heard through the grapevine that our drinking was considered "awful" and "irresponsible" by some of the other parents, and they decided to forgo parties where alcohol was served from that point on as a result
Can you f'ing believe that shtein? We're adults and we're having a couple of drinks. What's the big deal? It's not like we got shtein-faced or anything.
The good thing is, now that the tightasses no longer attend parties, we can get together and have a good time without having to deal with the puritans glares anymore.

A friend of ours is a non-drinker. The lore goes that he used to drink, but he gave it up (we don't know the details). But it's okay because he has such a big personality anyway. Life of the party, even sober.

Allergy to beer is real, so I guess that gets a pass. But you know what? I'm allergic to leaves and grass and pollen of all kinds and I still go outside, so maybe this dude should just tighten up and deal with it.
I can understand why people frown on it. I mean bad, bad shtein can come from the result of drinking, and some people experience this more than others and therefore think every person with a drink tries to have sex with statues or fat women, or wants to bring humanity down or kill christ. I mean I can get pretty hammered and maintain, thats genetic, my grandpa housed manhattans all night and never acted a fool and was a hard workering moral person. To wrongly judge people you don't know for drinking because of your own experiences or other idiots actions is not right. in other words go farg yourself.

Beer takes too long. I mean if I'm playing beer pong and chuggin the stuff cup after cup and running the table, then yeah it works. But I like to get myself drunk fast, and if there's more liqor to drink I'll drink it 'til I'm smashed, which takes a lot less then beer. If there's no more liquor, I'll switch to beer to keep myself drunk/buzzed and give me that blurry eye-sight drunk, which is something that liquor never does for me.
I guess you can call me a "woman" because I like to mix drinks. But I always make them stronger then they're supposed to be, because I'm not drinking for the taste. I'm drinking to get myself shtein faced as fast and for as long as possible. This is why Everclear rules. But I'll mix Vodka, Rum, Brandy, anything that's 70 proof and up, if there isn't any grain on hand.

I thought grain was pretty neato also until one special night freshman year.
Now, I'm fairly certain grain is the devil. And also you seriously can't have realistic opinions on this matter until you're actually of legal age. If you're underage, you drink to get drunk. Every time. If you're of age, you can at least kid yourself into drinking just to drink... and that's where the fun really begins.
I used to drink Grain in HS and Freshman year of College. We would drive down to Maryland on sundays since Delaware wouldnt sell beer on Gods Day :paranoid. It was a standard of getting a bottle of everclear for the ride back to wilmington, and 2 30's of miller lite. The goal was always to drink the bottle between the 2/3 of us before getting back, then playing icehole/kings court/spades all night.

Staying in Ukraine last winter for 6 weeks, I absolutely feel in love with Ukrainians vodka. I brought back the max I was allowed, and only drink it on special occasions now. It tasts too good to blow on a typical night.

Right before I joined the Army, I had to go see a doctor about chronic heartburn. He ran some tests because he thought I may have stomach cancer or ulcer. It turned out just to be acid reflux disease. He told me I couldn't drink anymore, and if I did at most 1-2 beers. He gave me some Prevacid and that healed me up pretty good. I only stopped drinking for two weeks. I really couldn't deal with it. So far I am fine.

I have the same thing. The strangest thing is that it really only affects me when I drink a lot of water. Beer, liquor, kool-aid, tes, soda (before I quit soda) and everything else causes no symptoms.
I went through an entire bottle of Maker's yesterday during our turkey day festivities at my sister's house. I now need her to have children so that I can finally be the drunk uncle no one likes to talk about. Too bad she's a lesbo.

Same here. I used to worry about eating stuff like nachos anytime after noon, because I knew it would be brutal come bedtime. That doesn't happen now. Of course, I rarely eat nachos these days, as well.
I guess yesterday I had to make up for not drinking all week. I drank 10-14 beers, a bottle of wine, and half a bottle of wiskey, and a couple shots of Crown. Believe it or not I did not black out or act insanely drunk.

Went out and shot some pool last night with a few friends. I hate going to most bars around here because very few serve Maker's, including the one we were going to. So I order a Crown and Coke and come back for another about 20 minutes later. But they were out of Crown. Apparently I had ordered the last bit of it they had in the entire bar. So I order Jack and Coke. Outta Jack too. And outta Jim. The bar had no whiskey left. How the hell does a bar run out of whiskey? This was worse than the time I stopped by a local Mikey D's and they told me they were out of cheeseburgers.
So I ended up drinking 1 Crown and Coke last night followed up by 3 or 4 plain cokes. I could have moved on to vodka or something but I simply didn't feel like dumping any more money into a bar that runs out of whiskey and doesn't replenish their stock. You care.

But they warned that alcoholics should get sober as quickly as possible because the longer they continue to drink heavily, the less likely their brains will be able to regenerate.
"The core message from this study is that, for alcoholics, abstinence pays off and enables the brain to regain some substance and to perform better," said Dr Andreas Bartsch, of the University of Wuerzburg, in Germany.
Slurred speech, blurred vision and an inability to walk without swaying can occur after a few drinks but chronic alcohol abuse can cause more lasting damage and poor general health.
Research in animals has shown that alcohol can disrupt the development of new brain cells in adults. Heavy drinking during pregnancy can also affect the development of the baby's brain.
Bartsch and scientists from Germany, Britain, Switzerland and Italy uncovered the brain's regenerative ability by measuring the volume, form and function of the brains of 15 alcoholic men and women before and after they stopped drinking to see how much they changed over seven weeks.
Using sophisticated scanning techniques they showed that after 38 days without a drink the brain volume of the patients increased by an average of nearly 2 percent.
"Only the one patient with the longest history of alcohol dependence had a slightly reduced brain volume," said Bartsch, whose findings are reported online by the journal Brain.
The volunteers also performed better in concentration and attention test and had higher levels of chemicals linked to brain cell function.
All of the patients had stopped drinking without medication.
"The human brain, and particularly its white matter, seems to possess genuine capabilities for re-growth," Bartsch said.

Indeed. I drank Monday night. Bartender was mixin some strong drinks. I layed down and started spinning. I yacked all over my balcony and got some on the carpet. I quit drinking for real. I puked and still had one of the worst hangovers ever!
