Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

QuoteAs more states legalize marijuana, NFLPA to study potential as a pain-management tool

The NFL Players Association said Wednesday it is forming a committee to actively study the possibility of allowing players to use marijuana as a pain-management tool, Mark Maske of the Washington Post reports.

The union is forming an NFL players pain management committee that will study players' use of marijuana as a pain-management mechanism, among other things, though the union has not yet determined if an adjustment to the sport's ban on marijuana use is warranted.

"Marijuana is still governed by our collective bargaining agreement," George Atallah, the NFLPA's assistant executive director of external affairs, said in a phone interview Wednesday. "And while some states have moved in a more progressive direction, that fact still remains.

"We are actively looking at the issue of pain management of our players. And studying marijuana as a substance under that context is the direction we are focused on."

A growing push from players within the sport, plus an ongoing national medical conversation over the benefits of marijuana and the dangers of opiate-based painkillers, have increased scrutiny on the league's rules that ban the drug. This also comes as voters in California, Nevada and Massachusetts approved recreational marijuana use Tuesday, joining four other states and Washington, D.C., in enacting similar laws. Florida, Arkansas and North Dakota voters legalized medical marijuana use, bringing the total of states with such measures to more than two dozen.

But marijuana use remains prohibited under the drug policy collectively bargained between the NFL and the NFLPA, and both parties would need to agree to any changes to that policy. Players are tested for marijuana and can be fined or suspended without pay for positive or missed tests.

The union's contemplation of approving marijuana as a pain-management mechanism for players had begun before Tuesday's voting.

NFL getting a nice potential out on this contentious and damaging issue, just at a time when players and fans are fed up and ratings are down. Let's see if Rog can dig in his heels just because the union may want it, and farg it up.

Jake Long likely gone for the season. 3rd tackle Vikings have gone through this year (Matt Kalil and Andre Smith). It would be a good CF contest this week - pick what slot the Vikings end up at. Although I'd pick Minnie to end up around number 12 I think the Eagles have a shot to get into the top 10. :crazy

As a fantasy owner I have to say that his performance did not seem very enhanced this season, but he did play all of the games, which is unusual for his oft-injured ass.

very interesting flex to move kc/den to SNF for ne/nyj, which swaps places to become the main 425 game

i get why the nfl did this -- they are afraid of a blowout. but the markets dont suggest this was worth it and cbs is already losing kc/den to nbc later in the year. meaning the home of the afc will not get a big divisional afc west game. it seems like this was 100% a nfl move with no input or say from cbs or nbc.

look out for saints/lions to get moved in week 13. panthers/seahawks is not appealing. no/det should be in the 30s, which will play well for the mongoloid fantasy football loving nfl audience. that would make eagles/cinci the main 100 fox game, so more of you have a chance to see that on your teevees.

So MDS, how did the Steelers/Cowgirls game end up doing yesterday ratings wise? All of sudden I'm paying attention to your discussion on the subject.
I said watch the game and you will see my spirit manifest.-ILLEAGLE 02/04/05

it did really well as would be expected...everything was back at normal levels for the nfl this week, but they had some super matchups and games. this week will be interesting.

I for one look forward to the sale of many new jerseys. I look at football in Los Angeles, and I immediately think of thousands and thousands of J. Goffs.

Jets RB from a few years back Joe McKnight was killed in what seems to be a road rage incident.

Murdering a total stranger two minutes after meeting him seems super crazy to me, as does trying to argue back to a total stranger on the road who seems angry enough to murder you.
