"No, you shut up. I'm trying to get fired, I don't give a farg anymore." - Mike Pereira

The man. The myth. The legend.

QB Eagles

Quote"The back judge threw his flag for defensive pass interference," Morelli said in a pool report. "We got other information from another official from a different angle that thought the contact was minimal and didn't warrant pass interference. He thought it was face guarding."

Face guarding is a penalty in college football, but not at the pro level. Back judge Lee Dyer threw the flag on Hitchens from the far side of the field. Head linesman Jerry Bergman offered the different -- and ultimately deciding -- view.

And the holding where Hitchens is yanking Pettigrews jersey?

Bulllllllshtein

QB Eagles

Apparently that was face guarding also, and when Dez Bryant came on the field without his helmet on... I'm hearing that they are considering that face guarding too.

PhillyPhreak54

A face guarding type of afternoon!

Parnell was also face guarding when he was clamped onto the Lions DL on the TD

Tyron Smith too

But hey - Blandino and Rog got their GB/DAL matchup for monstrous ratings right ?

Yeah, the refs totally farged Detroit there. Looked like a back shoulder throw that was a bit inside. Definite PI, probably defensive holding as well. You could maybe argue offensive push off or even a facemask on the receiver but it doesn't matter. The bottom line is that Bryant should have been called for stepping on the field without a helmet to argue with the ref, so regardless of the previous calls that would give Detroit 15 yards and a first down. I don't think a live ball followed by a dead ball personal foul offset. Not a big conspiracy theory guy but wouldn't be surprised if the fix was in. The refs explanation after was bullshtein as well.

A lot of things are wrong with the officiating. There are way too many ways to get automatic first downs, and combine that with the fact that you can't even touch receivers anymore, it makes for way too many advantages for offenses. In no way should you brushing a receivers back turn a 3rd & 20 into a first down. Just throw a 5 yard illegal contact and make it 3rd & 15.

totally agree with all this...i am glad they didnt call that PI...they call it way too much...det didnt deserve the call anyway cause the throw was so awful....can almost make an argument for an uncatchable ball...the problem was picking up the flag...you cant pick it up once you do that...but overall i liked the non call
i can take a phrase thats rarely heard...flip it....now its a daily word

igy gettin it done like warrick

Within the confines of the current rules, that was definitely PI. A defender can't have his back completely turned and make contact like that regardless of how terrible the throw was. I agree the current rules are bullshtein. Even if they keep it as an automatic first, at least make it a 5 or 10 yard penalty instead of a spot foul.

im just happy anytime PI isnt called in todays nfl....id also have a modicum of sympathy for detroit if staffords pass wasn't so god awful....he didnt deserve a call there

play could have gone either way...my only problem was with the refs was picking up the flag.....thats shady as hell

It should have been offsetting penalties, but Detroit was going to lose regardless.
