He should not have lied to the government and the grand jury.

But they never should have been on him in the first place. They have zero place in sports. MLB and that clown Bud Selig should have and should regulate the game. Not our government

ice grillin you

they are interested in the selling of illegal drugs...the govts involvment has nothing to do with sports or baseball

if there was a cross country heroin ring involving mlb players they would be all up in it...on the flip side they also go after steroid dealers who dont sell to professional athletes
i can take a phrase thats rarely heard...flip it....now its a daily word

igy gettin it done like warrick

The gov't should not have to regulate much of anything, be it banks, the auto industry, insurance, energy, sports, etc, etc, etc.  And for the most part, they don't.....until those industries fail to adequately regulate themselves and are either ripping off/misleading their customers, or in this case, involved in unsavory things like illegal drugs.

Just to clarify, Bonds didn't get convicted of perjury. He got convicted of obstruction of justice because he gave a rambling answer to a question. He did in fact answer the question (and his conviction is not about that), but because of the rambling before his answer, the jury found him evasive. This is the sum total of a five-year federal investigation.

Any witness in a trial who goes on a tangent after being asked a question could be charged with the same felony. But they won't be, unless 1) they are as unliked as Barry Bonds, and 2) the government has to grasp for straws to justify spending millions of dollars on an investigation that didn't really go anywhere.

its like bond going against clay davis by himself so he can have enough ammo to make a run for mayor

all in the game
Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

Sawx just signed Adrian Gonzalez to a 7yr, $154mil deal.  $154mil for a player with a career .282 avg and 169 hr (24/yr avg).  My first reaction was that he's being drastically overpaid, but I guess when you compare it to Werth's deal, it's probably considered a bargain for Boston.  Still, imagine paying that type of money to Danny Tartabull.

QuoteFrank McCourt took a $30-million loan from Fox to meet the Dodgers' payroll obligations last week, according to three people briefed on the arrangement.

The money is expected to cover the Dodgers' expenses into next month. Commissioner Bud Selig has yet to say whether he will approve a proposed television contract between Fox and the Dodgers, which McCourt has presented as a long-term solution to the team's financial troubles.

Offensive woes might force Dodgers to bring up Jerry Sands

The loan marks the second time since the end of last season that Fox has provided money to the Dodgers owner so he could cover expenses.

The loan was furnished to McCourt personally rather than to the debt-strapped Dodgers, so the arrangement did not require Selig's approval, according to the people briefed on the deal.

Dodgers fans have been murdering McCourt for the last couple of years and it's been even worse in recent weeks since that Giants fan was beaten on opening day.  I'm sure this will irritate a lot of people as well.  Especially since it was a personal loan, so I'd imagine that gives McCourt a little flexibility in how he uses that money.  In other words, he's probably not putting all of it into the team as I assume he would have to if the loan were given to the team instead.

This dude is farging shady.  It's pathetic how some of these owners are allowed to operate their teams.

Not anymore.

Thanks for switching over just in time to see that, ESPN.

BTW.....I honestly think I'm the first person on the internet to have made the Timmy Jimmy/Mitch Kramer comparison.  I actually googled it once and no other reference I found were dated before mine.  I'd like for that to be my legacy.
