SD

Francisco was a well thought of prospect in the Indians farm system: http://indians.scout.com/2/628820.html

I'm not saying he's going to set the world on fire but I think he'll finish with .270/15-20 HRs/70-80 RBIs. I'll bet his numbers are at least comparible to Werth's.

Going to need to get a lot of walks--Werth's patience was the best part of his game.

Bonds found guilty of obstruction of justice but the jury couldn't reach a verdict on the other 3 counts against him.

So glad the government is wasting money on a pointless farging trial. Money well spent, DOJ.

QB Eagles

Ultimately, society just wants to punish him for sullying baseball's biggest records. I don't really consider him a criminal for trying to extend his career and improve his game, but like Martha Stewart, he got on the government's shtein list, and that was all it took. If you look at exactly what he's been convicted of, it wasn't even about roids. It was basically for being an icehole during the roid investigation.

Maybe I'm wrong, but the sports-watching public seems a little burned out on roid stories. People will care less when players get busted, fewer players will get busted because the technology will advance, and then in another 10 years or so there will be another burst of moral outrage about it and the cycle (no pun) will begin anew.

it doesnt seem so in a steroid trial but perjury is pretty farging serious....switch steroids with someones murdered son and all of a sudden it doesnt feel like a waste of money...unfortunately you really cant pick and choose when lying in court is or isnt serious...it all has to be treated the same

Exactly.  It doesn't matter what you lie to the gov't about, just the fact that you lied (or they beleive that you lied) to them is all they need to come after you.  And they should.  If the gov't were to ever minimize or categorize the lies that people tell them, then it our judicial system would crumble.  Basically, if the gov't starts asking you questions then you better tell the truth to the absolute best of your ability.  Because if you don't, they will come after you with everything they've got.  Tax payers may not like it, but the gov't will not spare a single cent when it comes to investigating and/or trying someone for purgery.  And I don't blame them one bit.

And QB is dead on with both of his points as well.  He wasn't on trial for doing roids, he was on trial for lying (allegedly) to the gov't.  And the obstruction charge he was convicted on was for giving a misleading answer to the grand jury.  My guess is that if the prosecution does not request a new trial for the other 3 counts, then Bonds will likely get the single conviction thrown out.  Now even though I'm in favor of the gov't pursuing purgery charges to the end, I think that when you have a mistrial on 3 of 4 charges, then it's time to call it a day.  They went after him with everything they had and didn't win.  Pack it in and move on the Clemens.

And yeah, I don't really think anyone in the baseball world really gives a shtein anymore.  The cheaters are, for the most part, out of the game and I think everyone has moved on.  Bonds cheated and I think anyone with a shred of common sense knows that.  He also dodged a bullet from the gov't, so kudos to him.  Time to let him fade away into obscurity and live the rest of his life knowing that he'll never get into the HOF and be recognized as one of the games greats.
