It's Doc on the mound on Friday... dude will be lights out.  Cliff Lee will return to form... and we'll all forget the bitching and the moaning in a few weeks.

QuoteManager Charlie Manuel sees his hitters swinging too hard, looking overanxious at the plate.

"I know I am," said Ryan Howard, who is hitless with six strikeouts in his last 11 at-bats. "I know I feel like I've kind of been jumping out trying to get pitches, instead of just letting them come to me. I think for me, I just need to be a little more patient and just sit back a little bit. It's a little bit easier said than done, but I've got to find a way."

Well Einstein, you got one game to find the way.

The most frustrating part of his at bats is the fact that he swings at the shtein, but watches the balls he should be hitting out of the park.

Munson

Forreal. He stands like 6 feet away from the plate, watches balls go by middle in, and then swings at outside junk. Like dude, it's been that way for 4-5 years now, you should learn by now what pitches you're gonna get and when

perhaps you could explain sd's reasons for "disliking" it as well since you seem to be so in tune with other peoples minds

Don Ho

He'll probably figure it out in the last year of his gazillion dollar contract.

QuoteThe home team in a deciding Game 5 in Division Series play is 8-9 overall, and 2-4 in the NL.

Quote"You get your big boy on the bump," Rollins said. "This was the reason why he was brought here, when you have games like this, for him to come out and be the man. Be Doc. Go out there and perform a little surgery."

Well maybe a little help from your friends wouldn't hurt.

QuoteOnly one NL team has ever rallied from a 2-1 deficit to win a Division Series. Other than the 2002 Giants -- who did it against the Braves and went on to lose in the World Series -- NL teams in that situation are 0-16 all-time.

So the question remains... How much do I need to bet on the Cardinals to guarantee a Phillies victory?

its not one of those times where hes flailing at pitches ten feet off the plate...he just needs to just wait on the ball a lil bit longer and he will drive it instead of rolling over it

The big difference between the 08/09 playoff Phillies/Cards this series is patience at the plate. That was the most impressive thing about the 08 run...hitters were patient and made pitchers pitch to them. That's what the Cards have been doing this series. They're patient at the plate and waiting for that one good pitch to cross the plate. Notice they're not knocking the ball all over the stadium...a lot of their hits are little bloops or find holes in the offense, that's because they're swinging at pitches in their zone. The Phillies on the other hand are trying to force the issue and 'overanxious' as Charlie describes them is dead on. They need to farging relax.

You'll have a pretty good ROI.  Phillies are the biggest favorites out of the 3 home teams going to game 5.  Currently listed at -180.

i love how phillie homers portray this game as being about roy halladay and nothing else matters...as if hes pitching against jake westbrook......chris carpenter is farging great and has a really good postseason track record...including throwing a shutout in the world series....halladay can pitch fine and easily still lose

not to worry, this offense is epic and will have no issues putting up 7 plus runs.

oh wait, it's not '08 anymore.
