2011 Philadelphia Phillies Season Thread (choking awful pos team, DIAF)

if you just go by the look test and not the records because the braves have actually played a real schedule...atlanta just looks more like a complete team than the phillies....they got a better lineup almost equivalent pitching a real closer....phillies have holes everywhere braves seem like a complete team...not a great team but a filled out one

now if GRIT and contreas both come back 100% then the situation may change but right now i dont see how the phillies beat out the braves for the division

I dont agree that ATL looks like a more complete team.

What are your reasons for believing this?

filled out offense....set bullpen roles....set closer

i dont see any place where the phils have a distinct advantage over the braves....i do give them a slight advantage in SP but its minimal and doesnt cancel out the advantages the braves have at other spots

that being said im willing to see how the phils do in this 20 game stretch ive pointed out....if their win % is even close to what it is now then i may reserve judgement....but how i see it now its definite advantage braves

right now with the phillies missing half their lineup and pitching some called michael stutes in the 8th inning they are roughly even with atlanta

lets just see how the rosters look in sept, and i imagine they will not include dane sardinha and scott matheison

ill definitely revisit after this stretch...but for now im cool

i have nothing to lose here...im filthy rich so the money is completely irrelevant...and if the phillies make the playoffs ill be happier than a pig in shtein...that said if the phillies totally flop in the 20 game johnson im down to go up to 100

even if they got 20-0 or i guess now 18-2 in this stretch it doesnt matter. theyre getting in and then they will be judged. farg im almost positive if they take care of the mets, nats, astros, etc. and play .500 against everyone else thatll get them to 90/95 wins, then they just hopefully are clicking at that time.

it starts getting serious at a certain point...you just know it. like that first august or late july series against a team youre fighting for the divsion with. right now they could be play the red sox or the twins or the giants or the rockies theyre all just games.

as ive said 900 million times before you all are taking these games too damn seriously. weve seen "big" games with this team since 04/05, we know what they are like and this aint it. just be pateint, theyll come.

you really are delusional if you think this team can go on a august september run like they have in the past....this is what kills me about you youngins...you see the name phillies and just automatically think they are the greatest thing ever no matter what

this team certainly can win the division but this team 100% cannot fall behind like in years past and then flip a switch around the time the summer is ending and run away from teams

no he isnt placido polanco is which is almost as bad and basically four minor leaguers are filling the 5-8 holes

this is precisely why they will never have another 23-6 august or september

unless as i said GRIT comes back fully healthy

again i never sugarcoated the fact that the offense isnt very good and if it looks like this in september they arent good enough to win

but im fairly confident it wont look this is september. utley even 50% of the way back trumps what you get our of valdez/orr. they are going to make a move for a corner OF. ruiz will get back. contreras will get back. so will possibly whats left of lidge.

which is again why i say what they do now is irrelevent. they already proved they can take of the bad teams which leads you to believe theyll be around .500 at the worst with the good teams. and this is with dane sardinha and wilson valdez.

now take that an imagine the extra runs and outs theyll get when and if they are healthy.

even healthy i dont think they are appreciably better than atlanta or florida because of jimmy being done and werth gone ....and i def dont think they will ever be truly healthy again

which is why i wanna see what they can do with what they have over this 20 game stretch....you can call it early in the year but to me its a big barometer
