Are they really worse than last year, though?  I agree that Pederson looks like he's completely overmatched and Wentz being a rookie is a huge question mark, but the defense and special teams are going to above average and the offense is going to be a shade above fair.

On a scale from 1-5, I'll rate it this way:

Defense: 3.5 out of 5.

Special Teams: 3.5 out of 5.

Offense: 2 out of 5.

Looking at the schedule they play very average teams in the division, so you have to figure at least 3-3 there.  Are they really going to go 3-7 against everyone else?

7-9 seems entirely reasonable to me.  If Wentz stays healthy and is at least average and Pederson doesn't panic like a fleshpophead and actually runs the ball more than they pass it, it seems more than reasonable.

Frankly I'd be thrilled if they were in the playoff hunt in December.  I'm not * expecting * it but if they're competitive in most games and show progress with Wentz, I think that's all we can really ask, especially considering the dearth of weapons on offense and Pederson being a total wildcard.

The thing that it seems like no one is taking into account with this defense is that, while it looks to be a good defense, this very well could be a defense that plays a game's worth of snaps in the first 3 quarters.  It's not unreasonable to think that this offense is going to be bad...like, really bad.  And if they aren't able to sustain a few drives, then I don't care if you've got the 85 Bears on defense because they're going to get worn out.

Paired with a good offense, this defense has the potential to be pretty damn good.  But there's not much of anything from the preseason that would indicate that the offense is even going to be average, much less good.  Defense will probably keep them in games that they otherwise have no business being in, but I suspect that they'll fold in the 4th most of the time.

I actually disagree that Pederson looks completely overmatched.   I have no enthusiasm for him whatsoever and think he'll prob be a meh/bad coach, but he didn't make any egregious mistakes like I was expecting in preseason.

i like what hes doing off the field....i dont think hes going to be horrible game prep wise. they werent bad in the colts game. he has good assistants around him.

chip was incredible in the packer game last year and he was a genius who was going to the superbowl after that game....pederson cant form complete sentences but that preseason colts game!!

Didn't say it guaranteed he was a good coach, just that I didn't see much support for Rome saying he's been completely overmatched.   He may well be but he was fine through preseason.

Let's assume the TEs are going to get a lot of 7 yard catches and any successful drives they do have will not be quick strikes. At their worst, at least they won't be like the last three season's 20 second drives going 3 and out.

QB Eagles

What's so great about the Eagles special teams again? 90% of special teams comes down to how good your kicker is. The Eagles seem to have an average at best kicker.

Maybe 33 year old Darren Sproles is still a great punt returner, but even if he runs back two like last year (and I'm skeptical of that) I don't see it counteracting the lost points due to a mediocre kicking game.

he was coaching some podunk high school like 5 minutes ago and sounds like the guy from slingblade

im sure he will be awesome

nobody is saying hell be awesome. but everything hes done up to this point, outside of stumbling through pressers, has been fine.

theres obviously plenty of question marks with him and good to decent chance he doesnt last more than 2 years.
Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

theres a handful of great veteran fgk and p but unless you have one of them your special teams units each year for any team are basically a coin flip

i have the same question about the defense that you do the special teams....when did it become some great unit?

He's a solid DT, nothing more nothing less. Definitely worth keeping around.

igs you've hated him since they took him in the 3rd round, he's definitely exceeded expectations.
