Random Eagles Information Still Not Worthy of a New Thread

I think there's good reason for optimism this season. The question isn't how many wins they will have but how many they will have compared to the rest of the division.

Last year 3 of the 4 division team defenses finished in the bottom 5 of the league in yards allowed. Chipp's hurry up offense artificially inflated that number for the Eagles. Dallas was the only defense near the middle pack but this year their D is suspended. If DGB can step into his potential and develop chemistry with Wentz, they could develop into a top 30 passing offense, which might give them a shot.

5-11

i dont see wentz making it more than 3-5 games before injury...the ensuing chase daniel stretch will be unwatchable....december with wentz gives some hope
Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

Pretty much.

This isn't a completely sunken feeling like it was back in the 97-98 seasons. Party like its 1999 because it's similar to that.

ice grillin you

they were hideous in 99 and in 97 there was much more hope than going into this season...they made the playoffs the year before

i honestly dont know a single fan that doesnt have a sunken feeling about this year....yes there are lots of people who are excited about the future because they believe carson wentz is a franchise qb and they are accepting of what is to come this year but between a hc whose never coached anywhere in his life to a qb who played against several white cornerbacks in college this season has disaster written all over it

i hope to god im wrong because of the pick but i dont see any reason to be bullish on this year

Vegas has the O/U at 7 and that's not ridiculous. I just have a hard time looking at Doug Pederson and thinking he knows how to coach an NFL team to more than five wins in a season.

It's not at all.  If you just look at this team "talent wise" and compare it to the rest of the division and league, they probably fall near the top of the bottom half....if that makes sense.  But then when you factor in not just a rookie coach, but a guy who so far comes off like a total doofus and a rookie QB with 1/2 of a preseason game worth of action to his name, you can't help but think that when it comes to close games in the 4th qtr, those guys are more likely to blow it than anything.

I hope to hell this team has some sort of freakish "magic" season where they roll off like 10 wins, only so that it lessens the blow of Cleveland having their pick next year.  But other than that, I really don't even care about the W/L record all that much.  2 wins, 5 wins, 7 wins.  Whatever.  The 2 big things I'm looking at this year are Pederson and Wentz.  I don't want to see them doing the same dumb shtein in week 15 that they're going to do in week 1.  Just show improvement.  Give me a reason, besides the draft, to be excited in 2017.

They won 5 games in 1999.

I know.

I think because of the defense and STs this year it puts them above that 5-11 to 7-9/8-8

My comp to 99 was top pick at QB and regime change

i dont see how a defense wins them 2-3 extra games on their own merit. the special teams arent even that good. sproles is a fossil....sturgis is whatever....kick returns are questionably worthless.....what big effect will st really have?

looks like my man j is just searching for something

thats what i dont get...i dont think j realizes how good of a defense you would need to give this eagles team and offense that many wins

now if you said i think the defense is going to be excellent and wentz will be better than everyone thinks then i could see going with 8 wins

but the defense and st by themselves is going to win 8 games?...doubtful....and thats what it will take because the offense is likely winning them zero games this year

i have them at 5 because the defense is likely going to be pretty good and the special teams likely will not be a disaster...with a projected pitiful offense, thats the area theyre in: 4-6 wins.

yea if you went all in on CW and thought he was the 2nd coming, getting them up to 10+ would be reasonable though that prediction is not

QB Eagles

Wentz is literally all that matters about this season. He doesn't need to be great or even particularly good in year one, but he has to show some flashes of talent. If he shows nothing that anyone can be hopeful about, if he basically looks like Brandon Weeden out there, this is going to be one farging bleak season. Even the most optimistic fan won't be able to spin that shtein.

Sproles is still effective. And their coach is excellent. Barner looks like he can shorten the field on kickoffs

I know how defenses can win games for teams. You guys are acting like the offense is going to be historically bad.

ice grillin you

like sarge said he needs to be better in week 16 than week 1 and headed in a direction where he shows he can be a winning nfl starting qb...

i would be ecstatic if he has the rookie year flacco had....not in terms of wins of course....thats not going to happen but in stats and improvement from game 1 to game 16...again tho people need to realize the leap wentz is making and how much more polished even flacco was of him...flacco originally went to pittsburgh then to delaware for guaranteed PT not cause he wasnt good enough to go anywhere else...wentz got some mac like offers and then 1-aa's....also flacco had like a thousand cfb attempts....wentz had 600

the learning curve and on the field culture shock wentz is going to face is going to be enormous i think...even against zesty ass cleveland if his td/int ratio is 0 or above and hes in the 50's for comp % ill be happy

the 1999 defense had:

Dawk
Hugh
Trotter
Bobby Taylor
Troy Vincent
Hollis Thomas
Tim Hauck
William Thomas
Al Harris

Maybe 1 or 2 other good players I'm forgetting.  4 or 5 of those guys are in the all time Eagle greats conversation and the others were pretty damn good.  There's some players on this defense for sure, but I don't see that kind of talent out there outside of a couple of guys.  This current defense, unless Schwartz is the 2nd coming of Buddy Ryan, isn't going to be able to carry this team to more than 5 wins.
