Why invest in a franchise qb, either a rookie or gimp, with no OLine?

Rome

Why freak out before anything actually happens?

Also - is Evan Mathis really irreplaceable?  I like him.  Good player, solid lineman and I want him to stay obviously, but really?  He's a guard.  If he's not happy in Philly and can find another team to pay his salary, have at it.

the only guys that should be worried are the fine aquisitions made at qb and rb.
If guns kill people then spoons made Rosie O'Donnel a fatass.

I'm down with this line of thinking, because Guards are the most easily replaceable position in football. But then I think back to last season when Mathis/Herremans were injured and how bad they were without them. So if you can replace them with a cheaper younger guy I'm all for it. Chip is probably taking Fisher from Oregon in the 1st round to plug into one guard spot. That's great and all but that pick should be used for a WR or safety.

The plan is there is no plan

While I don't care about Mathis specifically and have been generally ok with many of the moves on an individual basis the scary part is that there seems to be no big picture long term over reaching plan.....it's just a bunch of fantasy football type moves that when put together make little sense

And none of those moves have been for offensive linemen to replace the ones they're getting rid of, but that's okay I guess since they didn't replace either of the 1300 yard receivers they've gotten rid of over the last two years.

The man. The myth. The legend.

Big picture overly long term thinking is why the Eagles didn't win a superbowl the past 15 years. I'm with you, this seems very fly by the seat of my pants day to day, but I'm glad they're not looking so long term that it interferes with what they're trying to accomplish. There's no need to sit on the cap space they did for the past 15 years. But that's what you get when you let accountants run the show.

true but i can't remember when this team had this many what ifs going into a season. now granted we have the draft coming up but can we really expect an A+ draft class that produces a bunch of instant contributors ?

I can, remember when they didn't have a punt returner and they used Greg Lewis? Remember Macho Harris was Brian Dawkins replacement? There's a ton more I can think of if I had the time or patience.

They already need to fill one slot on the OLine.  Mathis is still an upper level guard.  Why create a hole when there's no immediate solution?

I have no problem with the line getting younger but it should be a gradual phase out where there are obvious replacements awaiting.

mathis isnt so much as a reid player as he is an expensive one....its all about salary cap at this point cause they are up against it

thats whats nuts to me...they had over 50 million dollars in cap space to start this offseason and while they got some solid players i dont know if they could have worked it any worse in terms of getting bang for their buck

If Mathis was as hot a commodity as he seems to think he is, he would be employed elsewhere already.

He's on the wrong side of 30, he's making a relative ton of money...  Again, I like the dude and would prefer it if he stayed but I'm not gonna lose my mind if he's cut or traded.

When the drop-off is from a potential Pro Bowl player to Matt Tobin it is somewhat concerning regardless of whether he's justified in wanting $$.
