I don't think so, you can argue that Shannahan had Elway, but I'd counter that he doesn't even want to keep the same qb Reid kept for over ten years.

I think Andy Reid did what Andy Reid is best at doing. Ignoring the elephant in the room. Sure, some part of him knew that McNabb was weak as shtein and tried to cover it up with a false air of carefree douchebaggery, but the coach never acted on it. Shanahan sniffed that shtein out in less than half a season and sent a message to his dumb ass.

Andy Reid, has his strengths as a coach. Out-smarting other successful coaches, in-game, is not one of them. Pitting him against a two time championship coach makes my bowels loose.

i don't think shanahan is sending any message to mcnabb.  i think he's sending a message to the rest of the team by pointing out that anyone, even the star quarterback, is accountable for their play.

shanahan's an icehole, no doubt, and the message simply doesn't play in 2010.

I think it probably has a lot to do with McNabb was Andy's guy, it was the guy he built the Franchise around.  Shannahan doesn't need to be nearly as loyal.
