Character guys don't win superbowls, great players do wether they have good character or not. The one time in my adult life the Eagles made the Superbowl they had one the lowest character guys in the NFL, and he was one of the best players on the team.

I actually agree with you, but if you're going through a rebuilding/reloading phase you need those character guys to build the foundation. I don't think the Eagles organization goal for 2010 is a superbowl. I think this is a reset season where they need to re-establish buy-in to the system and you don't do that with me-first players.

I don't think the fan base will like that too much, but it's been 5 or 6 years now where they have been tweaking and working around the margins to try and get over the hump and that team that they thought could do it with a few nips here and a tuck there is gone.

In all seriousness, you can definitely see glimpses of why many NE fans were glad to see Samuel go.  He will let instinct take over and play outside the plan, but I'm pretty sure that any plan which includes giving him a specific assignment would make him feel that way.

As for Ellis Hobbs, all NE fans breathed a sigh of relief when the Eagles got him.  Pushing him as a possible starting cornerback is preposterous.
