This was Chippy's shot to put his stamp on the team and he came up short, IMO.  There were already some concerns (mostly from IGY and probably me in a distant 2nd) that players wouldn't respect him and now I'm even more concerned.  What happens when DJax shows up late for practice or meetings?  Reid benched him for that. Can Kelly realistically hand out the same punishment?  What message does that send?

2/3 of the Eagles roster is black and Chip (along with Lurie and Roseman) handed out a punishment without even consulting anyone on the team. I'm not saying they should have formed a Black Panther council to determine the punishment, but at the very least they should have met with some team leaders first to get their insight and find out how the lockerrom in general feels about it and then come up with a punishment.

And you've also got to look beyond the lockerroom and today.

1.  Even if the team forgives him, that doesn't mean that JPP or Von Miller or Demarcus Ware or any other black defensive player on the Eagles' schedule has.

2.  In a league that is nearly 70% black, I'm sure there's a few black players who will be free agents next year and might have reservations about joining a team if (a) Cooper is still on it, and (b) has a reputation of being soft on white players dropping n-bombs in a blatantly hateful manner.

in chips defense this wasnt an in the locker room or on the field trangression...it was bigger than that...thus imo it was the owners responsibility to say our franchise doesnt want riley cooper in our organization...so in that case i think chip can hide under the lurie umbrella here

that said we dont know what happened behind the scenes as to whether chip said "i need him with maclin out" or "i cant have him in my locker room" or something in between...or nothing

i dont discount that you may be right and there could be players who are telling the coach right now that they dont want to play with this guy and the fact that he was on the field YESTERDAY could def be held against the coach...if not that hes defending cooper but that at the very least hes not standing up to the owner and defending his players...which honestly would be really hard for a new to the nfl coach

anyway you look at it chip is in a tough ass spot

i dont see the eagles are cowards. they now see the magnitude it has brought

they acted quick on their first decision to fine him--which is fine, but apparently after hearing from players now see what its doing to the locker room and on the field. no harm in changing their minds

What's this "want to" bullshtein? Just farging do it already

General_Failure

They're trying, but Cooper keeps sticking his fingers in his ears and yelling no.

apparently they are concerned with blowback from the union so they may wait until later in the preseason to do it

at the bare farging minimum he should have been suspended for X amount of time...and even if you dont suspend him for games right away....i dont get bringing him back in the locker 18 hours after shtein blew up....for the apology yes...but then hes gotta go home for a while and everyone has to ponder shtein

Riley Cooper has been excused from all team activities, the Eagles announced early Friday afternoon.

The statement reads:

"As we have said, Riley Cooper will be seeking counseling and we have excused him from all team activities. This is all new territory and we are going to evaluate this timetable every step of the way.  He will meet with professionals provided by the Eagles during this period of time to better help him understand how his words have hurt so many, including his teammates."

Just cut the piece of shtein.

Ay athlete that isn't smart enough to shut the farg up about their racist tendencies should not be trying to make on filed analysis during a crucial possession on the field with a game n the line.

Cut that farg.
I said watch the game and you will see my spirit manifest.-ILLEAGLE 02/04/05

Well, I'm hoping he won't be quite that drunk on the field. Would explain a lot, though.
