Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

crossing broad is also getting into the sub model game. they hired a bunch of writers, none of whom ive heard of except for kinkead. i saw him at some union games. he did a fine job on that beat, but its soccer. he knows the eagles and sixers like we do. def want to pay for those taeks.

theres also another sub model site in philly launching but i dont know what

its the same as the times or wapo where its 10 articles per month, then the paywall comes in. theres some pretty simple workarounds for that.

overall this model has proven to be successful though philly.com is stuck in no mans land as far as news outlets go -- not local enough to be providing content nobody else is (your local podunk gazette) and not big enough nationally to be providing earth shattering news (times, post, wsj, etc.)

The best news is I won't be inundated with a tsunami of ads when I visit now that it's a pay site.

Philly.com is hands down the worst site I've ever visited for pop up ads. Majority of the porn sites I go to can't even touch it.

Working around it is real easy when the paper doesn't put up 10 good articles per month.

Agreed all around.  Philly fans tend to be a dour & cynical bunch and those third rate hacks feed off it and pander to it at the same time.  It's just horrible.  The comments sections are worse, though.

MDS

the comment sections on there are almost worse than the emb if thats even possible

les and jeff on the eagles are fine and gelb does good work on the phillies but they generally dont have anything you cant find elsewhere

also csnphilly is the worst for popups and its not even close

i was too young to remember but my dad used to tell me how effing great the inquirer was in the 60's and 70's...at some point in the 70's it won pulitzers in something like 8 years in a row...it was legit one of the best papers in the country right on a level with the times and post

but even when i was growing up on it you had legends like mark bowden and buzz bissinger

we are a long way away from even those days
