I don't follow it or know enough about it - but I watched that shtein last night and it was awesome. I was in a sports bar in San Antonio sitting behind two Boston homers. Absolutely awesome watching those pecker heads get zesty.

Quote from: King Cole on May 15, 2010, 10:21:24 PMThere's nothing like a big playoff win and when you step outside everyone is going crazy. Car horns honking for miles, people running up and down the streets, sirens going off for jackasses getting arrested. You hear screams echoing in the distance.

Then the next day everyone is in a good mood during the work day.

You can still experience those things when your adopted city wins big. You just aren't a part of them, which turns them from being awesome into being horrible. I've been living in Pissburgh for 5 years and have had to endure three insufferable championships -- cars honking, fireworks, drunk people going nuts. farging sucks. Especially the Penguins. I also was living in the Detroit area when the Pistons won with Larry Brown.

I do try to get back to Philly when Philly teams make it to championships, because that atmosphere really is one of the things you miss the most when you move away. A board like this helps us out-of-towners reconnect with that a little. I couldn't get back in town for the Phillies WS win, so I still haven't been in the city for a victory. And I see I have a business trip I'm supposed to go on around the end of the Stanley Cup Finals... :boom

Cottman and Frankford... NE Philly.

Be there in a few weeks if the business trip gets moved or something. :)
Calling it right on the $ since day one.
Just pointing laughing, and living it up while watching the Miami Heat stink it up.

and this is why you need to live in philly

being in town when something like this goes down cant be described. it doesnt have the same effect perched from your comfortable mid florida klan house, your delaware trailer park or even your upper middle class maryland suburb. gotta be in philly. damnit texas.

I'm okay with being there when the teams actually win shtein, like the 08 series.

perhaps you could explain sd's reasons for "disliking" it as well since you seem to be so in tune with other peoples minds

If you had only been in Philly watching it the experience would have been like ten gazillion times betterz!

anyone.. any comments on Montreal?? I don't think I've seen much of them this year.  is this the typical season over.. they have no chance.. hartnell is a piece of shtein and I hope his wife eats his face .. etc...

SD

They're similar to the Flyers in that they found a formula that works defensively and have a couple guys (especially Cammalleri) that have stepped up offensively big time. Should be a great series. I just hope the Flyers aren't emotionally spent after the Bruins series.

Rome

The Canadiens might be the ones that are spent after beating the defending champs.  I think it's the Flyers in six, personally, but who knows?

the difference in this series could be the fact that the flyers top two defensive pairings are on a different planet than caps or penguins...montreal is not going to have the space they had in either of those series...

i also like that montreal unlike boston is smaller and not as tough....i dont think montreal has a top nine forward over 6-0...there shouldnt be to many instances of the puck being in the flyers offensive zone for two minutes at a time like regularly happened in the boston series

should be low scoring thruout...only problem with that is in close low scoring games the team with the better goalie often wins....and big advantage montreal there

huh?

the flyers just played a much more physical series that ended 48 hrs ago

i personally dont think either team is spent but if you had to pick an advantage there it def goes to montreal

If they weren't spent after ousting the #1 seed then I doubt ousting the Pens did it. The Flyers were just on one of the ultimate Hockey highs in the history of the sport.

Keep your phone handy, you'll be getting some drunk texts later.

I heard Montreal is on the small side which benifits the flyers physical style.  hopefully their not sluggish and come out and punch them in the mouth right off the bat.  the one thing I'm worried about is if their smallish that probably means speed which brings back memories of the lightning series a few years back.

yeah and i dont believe in being emotionally spent because you won a series..."emotionally spent" is a media created sports phenominon that really doesnt exist...red sox came back against the yankees down 0-3 and swept the world series

more like a sports radio talking point

granted there isnt a large amount of examples to draw from but of the three teams prior to the flyers that came back from 0-3 deficits two won championships and one lost in seven games the next round...its not like all teams get swept right after
