I had my worst race since starting running. Lost 3 full minutes from my Ocean Drive 10 miler a month ago. Taking a month (mostly) off from bronchitis hurt bad. Worse than I imagined. But I finished.

If you didn't shtein yourself, no one really cares.

True, but i didn't say I didn't.

that's a marathon to us normal sized folk

PhillyGirl

heh, about now, it's feeling like it to me too. I'm still not recovered and back to my normal self since that month-long bronchitis kicked my ass all of April.

Ran 7.5 miles last weekend (doing that again today) and while I felt great during it and could have gone longer, it knocked me on my ass for the remainder of the day.  :-\

so right after taht last post, I got pain in my leg and it turned out to be about 1 mile away from a stress fracture. Put me out for 6 weeks and then it was very slow rehab back. Today I ran 12 miles...but I'm only allowed to do it in intervals. 4 mins run/1 min walk. I can run 4 miles without stopping but long runs...I'm still not ready.

I will be running the Philly Rock and Roll Half next weekend, doing it this way.

10 weeks until the Philly Marathon.

Damn PG, I feel like a lazy bag of lard when I read your posts.

I was thinking of starting to do some running on this trail...its not dirty, its paved, but its hilly, sideways, up, and down....what kind of sneakers do you recommend buying?

Remember, I had or still have shin splints from basketball about 5 years ago...most likely due to a long pause in playing consistently and wearing the wrong shoe.

Do you run with arch support?

Just a basic running shoe is all you need. No one can really recommend a sneaker though, everyone has preferences and says that their choice is the "absolute best, i wouldn't run with any other shoe." I love the Saucony Progrid series... my wife swears by Asics... go to an actually running store (not a sports authority or dicks sporting goods) and have them measure your feet and give you a recommendation based on your stride. That doesn't mean you're going to spend a fortune. My favorite shoe (Saucony Progrid Kinvara's) run about $70.

PhillyGirl

Go to a running store and get the right fit for your foot. Everyone is different. They actually will have you run on a treadmill, run outside and watch your feet/legs when you walk. Also bring your old regular sneakers so they can see the tread and how your feet work. Make sure it is (like charlie said) not a sporting goods store, but a specialty running store.

I started off in $175 Nike shoes thinking they were the best, but I had massive knee pain 2 weeks in. Turns out, while those shoes are actually amazing, they were the worst possible shoe for MY foot. I wear Mizunos now and they're $99. lol

PS...I feel like I got hit by a Mack truck now.

My Nike Structures were on clearance for $50 at the local running store, and they are phenomenal. This reminds me I need to run tomorrow.

PhillyGirl

Half marathon tomorrow.

Odds on me sleeping longer than 2 hours tonight? lol

Race was a blast. Followed my doctor's orders of the intervals, so instead of the predicted finish of 2:10 (pre-injury when I signed up), I finished at 2:25. Exactly where I should have been adding in all of those walking intervals.

PhillyGirl
