perhaps you could explain sd's reasons for "disliking" it as well since you seem to be so in tune with other peoples minds

Someone writing an article about some basic, boring trash talk between a couple of NFL players ranks lower on the sports journalism ladder than MDS. I know ESPN has taught people to think otherwise, but not everything sports-related is news.

MDS

Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

i can't believe twackle would stoop so low.

Two questions:

Where do you rank Shady in terms of current NFL running backs. He's 44 yards from leading the NFL but has 32 less carries (he's behind Peterson in both categories), so for all intents and purposes he's the leading rusher in the NFL  He has the highest YPC among RBs with over 100 yards with 5.6 ypc. Right now I'd say it's hard not to put him among the top 2 RBs in the league.

As of this morning where do you rank him in comparison to Westbrook. Is he better, equal, or not as good. Westbrook had a better line but he was also a better receiver and better in pass protection.

rjs246

Define best.

Do it, monkey.

There's just no way to answer this question. McCoy is good. He fits this team and offense perfectly. I'm glad he's an Eagle. Yay.
Is rjs gonna have to choke a bitch?

Let them eat bootstraps.

Sgt PSN

He's def top 3 with Foster and AP.  It's almost senseless to argue 1 over the others at that point.

As for comparison to Westbrook, here's the thing...

We're comparing Shady 3 years in against Westbrook's career, so the outcome is skewed.

Westy was not great in pass protection either when he first came up if I remember correctly.  It took him a couple of years to really get good at it.

Also, it's very hard to compare the 2 as receivers because the Eagles don't run screens nearly as much now as they did with Westy.  For most of Westbrook's career, he was the main cog on offense, much like Forte in Chicago.  Westbrook got a lot of catches because he had to.  With the receivers the Eagles have now, they don't seem to run as many rb screens and you really don't see them running Shady out as a receiver.  The stable of talent the Eagles have on offense really lets McCoy be a running back rather than some multi-dimensional threat that the Eagles have to use in order to open things up for other players.

That said, you put Shady on the Eagles during Westbrook's years and I don't think he has quite the same impact as a receiver.

Agree with everything you said but the last sentence.

McCoy is everything you want in a running back. Power, good decision making, speed, balance, hands...everything. The only flaw he has is he holds the ball out like a loaf of bread, and he will pay for that soon Im sure.

You run him the way you ran Westbrook he's better. Id take him on the screen any day of the week over Westbrook just for his cutback ability alone.

Sgt PSN

He can definitely run the screen as effectively as Westbrook did, but I'm talking about all around receiving skills, including splitting him out wide.  It's really hard to gauge right now because the offenses are different and Westy has a bigger body of work to look at, but Shady just doesn't seem to be quite the receiving threat Westbrook was.  But like I said, he doesn't have to be.

Also, good point about ball carrying.  That's something that he really does need to work on.

You could really see how he was loose with the ball last night, but as soon as he was getting hit, he tucked it in. Still, not a good way to carry the ball. I think it was already said he's second in the league for total yards, 44 behind Peterson with 42 less carries. I think the most telling stat is avg. per carry, in which he leads the league with 5.6 yds. and also, he leads the league in avg. per game with 107.7. Second again in td's with 8 behind Peterson's 9. He's putting together a hell of a year. I think the fact that although it's early in his career, he seems somewhat durable. That alone makes him more vauable than Bwest in my book. The second half of Bwest's career it seemed he was either on the sidelines hurt or playing hurt. I don't know if Bwest was faster than Shady, but Shady definitly seems quicker. Quicker at accelerating and cutting. Last night he looked like a waterbug running all over the field. It was great to see. A hell of a preformance, it'll go down as one of the best games by an Eagles rb ever.

Eagaholic

I don't think Shady is quicker. That extra gear was Westbrook's strong point and I don't think Shady can match that. McCoy dances around better, has better vision around the LOS and cuts back better but he doesn't have that burst Westbrook did.
