he was really good. his personality is roughly the same as pedro felizs. just because hes better doesnt mean he needs to be what you think a 3 hitter should be. simply look at the results he put up.

and yes, he was a Hoyda in rf. but ryan howard cant make the throw from 1st to 2nd and no one complains because he hits 50 homers a year.
Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

I never understood the Abreu hate either. The guy was a really, REALLY good player on a zesty team.

unlike abreu feliz makes plays in the field and you can take bobby's transperant batting stats and stick 'em. again, what has happened since he and the other skirts left ? you can't argue the results since.

oh and what in the world do you mean nobody complains about howard's fielding ? have you listened to a sports talk station in the last three years ? he's been torched about his piss poor fielding until this year and rightfully so.

phillies will be under 500 this year...book it

lol at comparing howard & abreu in any way, shape or form.

abreu was exactly the sort of laid-back clown the phillies needed to get rid of before they could win anything.  i don't care what the seamheads of the world say... you need guts and balls as well as athletic ability to play baseball and although abreu had one out of three of those qualities, the almost total absence of the other two made him all but useless especially in a town like philly.

MDS

do not listen to 610. and not everyone is albert pujols. players have flaws, but you take the good with the bad. abreu got on base 40% of the time, knocked in 100 runs, scored 100 runs, stole 20 bases, hit 20/30 homers...you take that and give up the fact that he was afraid of walls and misjudged balls sometimes. just like you take howards crappy fielding cause he goes 45/130 every year.

feliz is one of the worst offensive third basemen in baseball. he can field well. doesnt really even out.

also who are the skirts? they were never really good enough when he was in his prime here.

how'd his "results" work out in new york ?  8)

btw - i feel dirty in a way for this opinion on abreu as it's mirrors that of burger king.

mds - the phils got rid of players like leiberthal, rolen and abreu. all considered our top players and they all deserved to be called that, but all were babies in some sort of way be it not being willing to give up the body to make a play or whineing about a coach actually expecting something of them besides the pretty stats.

again i ask you, what has happened since ? tell me the team's stats since they all left especially the one from last october ... 8)

he's gotta be playing the munson card, dude.  mds isn't this stupid.

MDS

i dont understand this argument.

abreu was a good player. i dont understand the hate. hes not rolen. hes not jd drew. he left because they were out of the playoff race and wanted to drop salary.

He put up decent stats but he'll always be part of that group with Lieberthal, Bowa, Thome, Wolf, Padilla and Wagner that couldn't get the Phils to the playoffs (and if it wasn't for last season, you could've thrown Burrell, Rollins and Myers in there too).

Rome

They made the playoffs in 2007 as well, Ed.  And not only that, the moment Abreu left the Phillies made a charge to get into the playoffs in 2006.  Now, that might be coincidental or it might have to do more with Utley and Howard becoming the leaders of the team, who knows.

Abreu was part of the problem and the sort of revisionist thinking going on where he's concerned is silly.

mpmcgraw

Getting on base and hitting homeruns wins baseball games. Being miss congeniality does not. The only reason people value shtein like that is because while they may not have the talent to play baseball they see themselves as having these qualities so they MUST be important.

It's a pretty cool/annoying pysch thing.

Sgt PSN

abreu was a good player for the phils.  just like rolen and lieberthal.  but they were all a bunch of whiney bitches who didn't have a winning mentality and couldn't bring one into the clubhouse.  rolen and abreu have gone on to play for winning ball clubs and not be a detriment, but it's easy to fall in line when you go to a club that's used to winning.  none of those guys had what it took to help change the losing culture in the phils clubhouse or on the field.  it wasn't until those guys were shipped off and some new, younger, hungier players were brought in that this team took a turn for the better.

MDS

or maybe those teams werent any good. im pretty sure the top of the rotation was job lieber and cory lidle. so no wonder they didnt win anything.
