This move is going to pay off big time....I love it.

Or it could completely backfire. Stacey shows up but can't play, further demotivating Shawn and destroying 40% of their offensive line in one fell swoop.

Just sayin...

This is what scares me....not so much the thought of it, but knowing that things will transpire just like this.

Anyone who expects otherwise, is fooling myself.

The knee thing is a concern because of his size, and the fact that he suffered it at the end of the season. He's not worth $7 million per but he's got stud Tackle potential so he's worth the risk.

Here's an article a few weeks ago, I'm sure there's some bs to this since he's an F/A but it sounds encouraging:

QuoteAndrews proving a fast healer
NFL insider
By Joe Reedy • jreedy@enquirer.com • February 15, 2009

When offensive tackle Stacy Andrews had surgery on his right knee on Jan. 7, the original timetable was that he wouldn't be ready until training camp.

More than a month into his rehab, he said he could be on the field during minicamp in June.

"The rehab is going great and I'm way ahead of schedule. My goal is to be practicing during minicamp," said Andrews while taking a break at Paul Brown Stadium. "It was frustrating a little bit due to the fact that it was five quarters away from the end of the season. As soon as it happened, though, it flashed through my mind that everything happens for a reason. I kept a positive head about it and haven't been down since."

Andrews was injured late in the Bengals' 17-0 win at Cleveland on Dec. 22. While the original prognosis the day after was a torn ACL and other ligaments, the surgery by team doctor Angelo Colosimo showed that there was no other ligament damage other than the ACL.

The other fortunate thing about Andrews' injury is that it happened to his right knee. On the line, tackles use their left leg as the plant leg on blocking, which bears the most weight.

Andrews and his agent Rich Moran chose Colosimo for the surgery after he was recommended by physicians from two other NFL teams. Since the surgery, Andrews has been with Bengals Director of Rehabilitation Nick Cosgray.

Before beginning his rehab, Andrews received a call from quarterback Carson Palmer, who said to do everything that Cosgray said.

"That was big when he gave me a call. Carson said that there were going to be hard days, but to concentrate on everything including the small things," Andrews said.

It has been that focus and attention that has allowed Andrews to make great progress. He has been off crutches since last Monday and started lifting weights almost two weeks ago.

With Andrews making progress, the bigger question now is whether or not he will be back with the Bengals. The team and Moran have been negotiating the last three weeks and Andrews is hopeful that they can agree to a multi-year contract by the time free agency begins on Feb. 27.

Said Moran: "The interest level by both teams has been very encouraging, in particular since he has progressed in his rehab. However, we're both cognizant that we haven't got a deal done since 2006. The injury doesn't make it any easier to identify a deal that both parties feel comfortable with."

After both sides were unable to come to a deal in 2006, in which he saw action in all 16 games, Andrews was a restricted free agent in 2007. It was during that season that he began to emerge with 14 starts, first at right guard and then taking over for the injured Willie Anderson at right tackle. After the sides again couldn't agree to a deal, the Bengals placed the franchise tag on Andrews.

Last season, Andrews started every game at right tackle until the injury, which happened in the next to last game.

In the process Andrews has proved his doubters wrong, first about his ability to be a quality lineman in the NFL and then about whether he could be a starter. A former track star, Andrews was drafted in the fourth round by the Bengals in 2004 after seeing action in only five games as a senior at Ole Miss.

"I see myself no longer as a question mark but as an exclamation point. I've wiped out those questions and doubts about me over the past couple seasons," Andrews said. "I would love to be back here. That's my priority right now. Hopefully we can get everything dialed in and get something done."

With the Bengals medical and training staff at the Scouting Combine in Indianapolis this week, Andrews will continue his rehab with Bob Mangine at the University of Cincinnati.

Another underlying factor in the move is that if the Bengals and Moran were somehow unable to agree to a new contract by Feb. 27, Andrews would have to move his rehab since he would be unsigned.

AROUND THE NORTH: Browns coach Eric Mangini, who was one of the first new coaches hired this offseason, still has not named assistants for wide receivers, running backs and linebackers. ... The Steelers have five offensive linemen who can become free agents. Tackles Max Starks, Marvel Smith and Trai Essex and guard Chris Kemoeatu are unrestricted while tackle Willie Colon is restricted.

Maybe we can have Jim Johnson tell us what life was like as a young man back then. You know, before he dies.

The man. The myth. The legend.

Quoteand a knee injury for a lineman has very little impact for how well they can move..

Ill disagree with you on this till the cows come home  but Im really not in the mood but

I will say that your statement could hold some validity for the guard position, but when youre dealing with the MCL/ACL (torn not sprained) moving laterally is way too important and the last time I checked its one of the biggest attributes for a OT--esp at 340+lbs

just because you need more lateral movement at OT than OG doesnt mean its ultra important

moving laterally for an OT is infintiely less important than for a RB WR S CB TE LB and guys at those positions all have come back from worse injuries than andrews has....reinjuring the knee is a concern...losing his lateral movement because of this injury is not...when he rehabs and is healthy again its a non issue

overriding theme seems to be that he didn't want to play for cinci & didn't give his all there...that's why the fans hate him.

I like it quite a bit...more than anything because it opens up a bunch of other options.  Interested to see what that guaranteed money is in the deal.
