I think Minnesota should jump all over a trade for Cassel. They could be an efficient qb away from a serious superbowl run with that defense...and Childress can stay employed in 2010

Plus I think the Pats will gladly take their 22nd pick anyway, plus more next round as they always seem to make gold out of shtein

QuoteBoldin on Cards: relationship irreparable
ESPN.com news services

Even if Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kurt Warner decides to continue his playing career, it might not be enough for Anquan Boldin.

Boldin, a key member of the aerial attack that helped carry the Cardinals to a Super Bowl season, told ESPN's Rachel Nichols on Thursday at the Pro Bowl in Hawaii that regardless of what Warner does, the chances of him remaining with the team are "very slim."

Boldin, quoted in Friday's editions of USA Today, said: "I don't think the relationship can be repaired with the organization. It takes more than, 'Well, we did you wrong and we'll pay you this.' It's not about the money. It was always about the principle, guys being true to their word. I guess I was expected to uphold my end of the bargain, and it wasn't reciprocated."

Boldin still has two years left on his contract, but he's been at odds with the team over his deal for quite some time.

As Arizona prepared for Super Bowl XLIII against the Pittsburgh Steelers, team president Michael Bidwill said the organization has attempted to work with Boldin to restructure his contract and extend it. Fellow receiver Larry Fitzgerald even said he'd consider restructuring his deal if it would help Boldin remain with the team.

"We've been talking to them for two years, and they still haven't made anything happen," Boldin said, according to USA Today.

On the topic of whether he'd request a trade, Boldin said, "I'll deal with my agent [Drew Rosenhaus] and see what we have to do, but my feelings won't change."

USA Today said Rosenhaus declined to comment when contacted.

Boldin had 89 catches for 1,038 yards and 11 touchdowns last season.

"It's too key to our success to let Anquan go," Warner said, according to USA Today. "I don't know if I'm leaning either direction. But [Boldin's situation] is going to be a key piece to it, whether we can do something as a team like this year."

Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.

But he's still under contract so he'll have to TO his way out or hold out.

The NFL needs to reconsider how contracts are negotiated so the money is guaranteed like in other sports. Probably reduce the frequency we hear players bitch about  :deion when they still have two or three years left on the deal

A lot of the money is guaranteed. I think they should increase the number of years from signing, that any contract is even allowed to be renegotiated.

The Cardinals have fired defensive coordinator Clancy Pendergast.

This makes so much sense considering how bad they were against the run in the playoffs

is it not obvious that there is a big problem with the fact that these contracts allow one side to terminate but not the other

what kind of contract is that, and where else in the business world would that crap play?

And that's the precise reason that, unlessed forced to, the NFL owners will never allow fully guaranteed contracts.  Far too big a chance of getting little or nothing on a huge investment.

ice grillin you

what huge investment?

the tv contracts alone are worth billions...a couple players per team might get a nice sb...but the money from those sb's doesnt even compare to the top players in other leagues contracts...even tho those leagues pull in much less money and their players risk far less

i can see end of roster guys not getting guaranteed contracts because the nfl does have much bigger rosters than the other leagues...so put in a scale of some sorts in terms of guaranteed contracts...but at minimum all starters should get them

$100 million dollar contracts aren't huge investments?  The owners certainly don't believe that. Football players have far too many serious and career-threatening injuries for the owners to acquiese to fully guaranteed contracts.

I'm not siding with the owners here.  I'm too busy to worry about millionaire players and billionaire owners.   I just can't see the owners willingly do that, not without a major conflict with the players union.

theres no such thing as a hundred million dollar contract if you can cut the person whenever you want...the contract is whatever the sb is...the big yearly salaries dont ever get seen unless in the rare instance of a donovan who actually reaches the end of his deal...and when that happens more than likely youre getting sent packing and will never see the truly big money

And my understanding is that you are looking for guaranteed contracts, which would MAKE it a $100 million contract, right?  Or would you rather just make the contract to reflect the economic reality, and not put in pretend numbers?

My point is that the owners will never willingly make those contracts fully guaranteed.

ice grillin you

with a salary cap i highly doubt there would be guaranteed 100 million dollar contracts wth a 53 man roster

but again there isnt 100 million dollar contracts now

as it stands now theres a salary cap AND non guaranteed contracts...thats just ridiculous...and even more so when you factor in that the nfl is the richest pro sports league

I'm not saying you're wrong.  I'm just saying that, unless something drastic happens, the owners won't give it up.

ice grillin you

the problem is the size of the rosters...if they can work out some sort of fair price scale system i think it could happen...huge if tho and youre probably right that its not gonna come to fruition
