That's one position the Eagles actually do value.  Go figure.

For a cornerback

cornerback is super important anyway but position is really irrelevant here...all that matters is the cap...if this was some incredibly unfriendly cap deal i could possibly maybe see your "wtf" but its not...unless you care what teams actually spend in terms of real money...plus even if they were struggling cap wise does it really matter when you consider the free agent class this year is atrocious and hes their best player period much less best free agent...so they gave him a ton of money to insure he doesnt walk...i dont see it as some head scratching deal to be honest

Pretty sure Shane Lechler is their best player, dude.
Is rjs gonna have to choke a bitch?

Asante's deal last year was an average somewhere around $9.5M/yr.  Is Asomugha really worth almost $5M/yr more than that?  OK, so 2010 is likely an uncapped year and it won't matter, but 2011 isn't a guaranteed uncapped year yet.  And I don't see how the rest of the free agent class being crappy determines that he's worth $14.5M instead of $10M or $11M.  Since it's not my team and the Eagles only see them once every 4 years, I'm not going to get pissed off about it, but man, Al Davis is brutal...

Before this year I can't remember seeing a big contract with more than 50% guaranteed. $28.5 million out of 45 is huge. Almost $10 million a year guaranteed. Sometimes "guaranteed" money really isn't, but for a young guy on a 3 yr contract it most likely will be. I'd like to know the signing bonus.

the rest of the class being zesty means if they let their best player go they are replacing that player with garbage...not a good trade off

plus the fact that he would arguably be the best player to hit the market means he costs that much more to retain

and from what ive read unless the info thats come out is wrong 2011 is irrelevant in this case since the raiders are on the hook for nothing that year

did they overpay sure...but they also kept their best player for the next couple years at no cost to the organization or its fans...only person that pays here is al davis

if youre a raider fan what would you have wanted...let your best player go and then replace him wth dre bly or someone?...if im an eagle fan and they have the cap space but let their let say best defender go and replaced him with trash id be furious...i wouldnt be man that jeff lurie is a smart cat

Question - if next year (2010) is uncapped but teams think they will get a new CBA in 2011, is there anything to prevent teams from re-doing a lot of contracts so players get most of their $ in 2010 and much less in subsequent years when there may be a cap again? That would stand everything on its ear.

ice grillin you

thats kinda what the raiders did here...ton of money this year and next and none (if they choose) in 2011

sort of a bogus list...you cant penalize the browns for bentley because of injury or the falcons for vick because of a dogfighting ring

Diomedes

well, they did say it wasn't Bentley's fault,  but that fact notwithstanding, for the Browns is was an awful contract

I thought Jevon's contract might rate a bit higher, but so what
