The BIGSTUD

This pre-game is more brutal to watch than an Andy Reid press conference.

Keith Russell is beyond awkward.
Calling it right on the $ since day one.
Just pointing laughing, and living it up while watching the Miami Heat stink it up.

so much for HD, thanks NFLN

1.  Donovan McNabb - If he has a great 2008, the Eagles are in great shape.

2.  Lito Sheppard - Will he have any opportunities to make plays?  Will he play angry in a good way?

3.  Same as IGY's number 2 - want to see the return game looking solid

4.  Front seven - Do they look outmatched by Pittsburgh, hold their own, or generally get downhill?

5.  Westbrook's contract - If he gets it, he'll probably get injured.  Murphy loves Philly.

1.  I liked what I saw.
2.  I didn't notice him, which isn't necessarily a bad thing.
3.  Meh.  Blocking didn't look any better than last year.
4.  They were a little outmatched.  The linebackers stink.
5.  Best outcome possible - new contract and stay healthy.

One thing I wasn't impressed with was Kolb. It's hard to judge him playing with the second team. Not much blocking and flags that backed them up. He had some short completions when receivers sat in gaps of the zone, but he doesn't look to have a lot of arm strength. His farthest pass was only 13 yds. He was 12 for 21 overall, and to me he just didn't look too proficient running the offense.

I agree completely.  His release seems slow and also weak.  By contrast, Feeley has a much better pocket presence and much quicker and snappier release.  I'm in no hurry for the Kolb era to get started.

1. desean jackson and lobooker - cant wait to see the pimps athleticism -

love it
without these two the season would be one big bore to me
and how about deshay fosters hands
they looked super gluey

2. kick return game - see above...also with the influx of special team free agents boimon clemons wilson ect...better blocking and coverage is to be expected as well

agree with ff
any return yardage was due strictly to the return guys
i would have liked to see deshay returning punts the whole game
hes clearly the guy
seeing deshay and not reno mahe return punts was a beautiful thing

3. defensive line - exotic blitz packages you arent gonna see in pre season but im interested in seeing the different personnel alignments...particularly if they go with four ends on passing downs...also curious to see how much if any 3-4 is played...also wanna see how athletic bryan smith is

didnt see many special packages
did see the four de's one time
mcdougle was active...would really like to see the guy make the team
he needs to shore up his run defense he was out of position at least two times in giving up the edge

4. second team tackles - for obvious reasons this could be a critical position for the team this year and i really dont wanna see another teams second unit ends running past guys

nothing noteworthy here they were solid

altho the steeler ends looked horrible
as i suspected that depth chart posted the other day was bogus
king dunlap for good reason is third string hes practice squad at best
his footwork is atrocious but that can be fixed
worse is how many times he got merked on a bull rush
shouldnt happen for a guy that big
part of it was not getting low enough and losing his center of gravity
a lot of it was he just isnt that strong

5. quintins on his way....

yes he is...

other thoughts....

--cobb and feely are atrocious...that screen play that was blown up had lobooker staring five steeler defenders in the face and cobb still thrrew it to him instead of throwing it into the ground...its qb'ing 101 and he failed...please stay healthy donnie

--mcnabb looked real nice

--i expected a little more out of kris wilson this season...disappointing to see him running with the third team

--gocong is complete trash...and the whole hype over the linebackers is one of the more baffling things ive seen...even the pittsburgh announcers were like "this is very good group" what?!?!

--speaking of the pittsburgh announcers...what a train wreck they were

--dawkins looked really old on the holmes td

--avant looked decent and perhaps he can be a solid possesion guy this year....still dont know whos gonna get down field in this offense tho unless deshay has a bigger impact in the pass game than i think

--hank baskett still cant get open in the nfl

--akeem jordan can be a special team demon this year....hes around the ball a lot both on defense and st

I kept thinking this the whole time Kolb was out there.  If he has to get any significant playing time this year... the Eagles are farged.

1. I loved what I saw from Foster.  Granted, it's only the 1st preseason game, but he looked as though he was the most seasoned WR out there for the Eagles yesterday.  Ran some pretty good routes... adjusted to a ball from Donovan which was a little behind him... and caught the ball CLEAN!  If this game was any indication... he's going to be contributing a whole lot more than kick returns.

2. Donovan looked good.  Very good.  Crisp passes... moved around pretty good... the shoulder looked fine as I expected.  Don't know why he had to play midway through the 2nd qtr though.  As always with him... just gotta pray for him to stay on the field.  If he does, it's all good and the Eagles can go somewhere this season.  If not... at least we'll get the chance to see that Kolb AIN'T the QB of the future.  Like IGY pointed out, WTF was Kolb thinking on that screen to Booker?

3. Joe Mays is gonna farg around and make this team.  That cat was everywhere last night.  He showed pretty good speed and lateral movement and didn't get swallowed up by a blocker too often.  I've heard rumblings of people comparing him to London Fletcher... I'd LOVE it if that happened.

4. Thank you Quintin Mikell for showing Considine right where the bench is and making sure he'll keep his pasty ass right there.  Just learn to hurt THE OTHER GUY when you hit them and we're good to go.

5. I liked what I saw from L-Bookie.  Sometimes he danced into the hole... sometimes he busted right into/through it.  I think he just might have been a little unsure at times of where he was going.  In the kick returns... he looked pretty fast, but the blocking wasn't there for him.  He looked like he had someting on one return, but he lost his footing.  He lost his guy on the first red-zone trip in the end zone, but Donovan missed him.

6. That really hurt me to see Santonio Holmes run by Dawkins like that.  The mind is willing...

7. Glad everybody seemed to get through relatively unscathed...

Best igy post ever?

QB Eagles

Dawkins on the Holmes TD was seriously the most alarming (if unsurprising) moment of the night.

PhillyPhreak54

I don't really think so...Dawk was caught flat-footed. Everyone is saying this is his "he looked old" moment, but that was nothing more than a safety getting beat by a faster WR who had the angle on him.

shorebird

It looked like the Eagles were blitzing big time that play, with eight guys rushing. Big Ben is a seasoned qb and will beat that nearly every time. Dawk was a man on an island that play.
