presser going on now....snider said that they couldnt pass up getting a guy like stefan and that the next year is going to be crucial in the future of the team

basically hes saying he doesnt trust billy king to do this...and wanted someone more experienced...fair enough

they are really building up stefans philly roots...that this is his dream job...philly guy at heart...grew up here...knows the market and the community...still lives here ect..

btw hes gm and president (makes sense since i guess for the nets to let him go hed have to improve his position)...team said he will be involved on the marketing and business side of the organization as well...not sure i like that

Im not even about to pat o'l Billy on the back for making this team salary cap heaven. It wasnt all Larry Brown that caused this mess. Plenty of drafts in his tenure that he farged up, and most likely the last one as well. Its about friggin time were are out of cap hell and well deserved after years of misery

Im shocked any GM in any sport could last as long as he did

You can't knock King for his drafts, Dalembart was taken at the end of the 1st, Iggy was a great pick, Green and Korver if anything are decent players, which is more than you can hope for for a 2nd round pick. Lou Williams isn't looking like a bad 2nd round pick either. It's not like he's had top 10 picks at his disposal and hasn't gotten it done.

His shortcomings have come in the way of contracts. Like when they wanted to retain Green but didn't feel like he was worth the money he wanted, he gets injured and no one wanted him so they should have been able to sign him on the cheap. Instead Billy gets into a bidding war with himself and signs him to a bad long term deal. Bad F/A moves I won't fault him for because he's never had cap space to work with.

no question his drafts were his strong point

but you have to know that reese/cole lives in bizarro world where drafts are his weakness and obtaining bed wetter webber was his best move

Sort of like when they hired Jim O'brien, ha.

From the morning papers and comcast sportrise it sounded as if he was content with where he was. Those types usually make better GM's, they're not out to conquer the world and make sound decisions instead of drastic ones that don't pay off.

reese/cole the fact that you list the webber trade as one of his good moves precludes you from speaking on the topic at hand

he was not a very good gm...but he wasnt satan either...stop jumping on the hate bandwagon because it was/is the cool thing to do

wait--first hes not a very good GM, but your ok with him. Yeah, makes sense. Living in the cellar is something you must be used to, because I dont know how many people share that sentiment.

Who you kidding flip-flop boy, you got all excited pounding 40's with your wannabe homies at the dollar store when you heard King got Webber. The city, the radio, the media all were excited and thought King actually pulled a good move. I know, I know...not you...please

While in college, Ed originated and secured the funding for the Philadelphia Housing Authority's Inner City Basketball League, which provided a structured basketball environment for hundreds of boys and girls who lived under the auspices of the Housing Authority. Ed was involved in all facets of the league, including scheduling, transportation, finances and game management. At the conclusion of his two-year involvement with the project, more than 500 boys and girls comprising more than 20 teams had been the beneficiaries of Ed's hard work and determination. The Housing Authority cited his efforts with a special recognition award, commending his efforts and contributions to the children of Philadelphia.

King sucked.  Should have been fired a couple of years ago.  Go team.

Billy King had good success in the drafts, but that was more due in part to the scouting team than King. Also DiLeo had a big hand too. King didn't really do the leg work in scouting these players. He was basically told who they like and what the best options are and Billy makes the final call. Still, you gotta give him credit. He made good picks.

I also don't think the Webber deal was bad either. If we didn't trade for Webber, we'd still have Skinner and Kenny Thomas under contract and wouldn't have nearly the same amount of cap room for the offseason.

I don't trust him with contracts though or just in trades in general. I also don't think he has a lot of respect around the league. I think teams know they can rip him off and hold out on trades with him. I think a more respected GM could've gotten more for Iverson than King did. Teams just wouldn't budge with that King wanted, because they knew he'd cave eventually.
Calling it right on the $ since day one.
Just pointing laughing, and living it up while watching the Miami Heat stink it up.

Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.
