snider obviosuly thinks the team should be a lot better than they are

i know im in the minority but i dont think billy king did a terrible job...he really was hamstrung after lb bolted...he was stuck with an aging untalented team with a big payroll...thats a death blow in the nba...he had no room to sign anyone of value...he made a bad move in getting webber but he also got rid of him and iverson which will open up all kinds of possibilities starting next summer...so when the sixers have close to the most salary cap space in the nba over the next few years remember that it was largely billy king who made it possible

id give him a C+

I'd give Billy a D+.  What IGY said for the reasons.  It's amazing how bad this team has been against the cap.  I just hope that they start new and clean now

I actually agree with you 100%

Stefanski is a GREAT scout...he will travel the world to find the right guy, starting with as as young as 15 or 16...that said, realize that the sixers are going to be a bit more foreign than they have been.

As far as making trades, signing FA's, he never had full control over that with the Nets always working as a second fiddle to Thorn, so I cant comment on how he will do in that capacity.

I can tell you that he is definitely well respected through the league.

Im not even about to pat o'l Billy on the back for making this team salary cap heaven. It wasnt all Larry Brown that caused this mess. Plenty of drafts in his tenure that he farged up, and most likely the last one as well. Its about friggin time were are out of cap hell and well deserved after years of misery

Im shocked any GM in any sport could last as long as he did

ice grillin you

in five years of drafting king only had two top 20 picks...iguodala which was a big hit and thad who is an open book....before 07 he only had two first rounders total...not exactly the ammo to make a kill...plus dont forget louis williams in the 2nd round...that was a real nice find

the thing with king was by the time he took over the team they were long gone into cap and no talent hell

by no means was he an executive of the year but people hate on him way to much...he was an average nba gm...look around the league and compare his situation to others and see if you really think he was horrible

Billy still signed Korver, Dalembert, Mckie, Coleman and Snow to outrageous contracts. He sucked. F.
Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

The list is endless of why this guy is and now was a horrible GM.

1) horrible decisions on coaches: Ayers, Ford, Cheeks... he even brought back Larry Brown last year. To do what, nobody still knows..

2) bad signings-both to free agent and extentions), overpaying average players and/or jacking up too long of deals, killing our financial flexibility: Greg Buckner, Eric Snow, Aaron Mc Kie, Derrick Coleman, Kenny Thomas, Brian Skinner....

3) bad trades: Van Horn, Glenn Robinson... I'll give him Webber, because we gave up three stiffs to get an all star, and Iverson, because what we got back was ok in my opinion

4)absence of int'l scouting while the NBA was going global. Frachises were  bringing in the Yao Mings, the Ginobilis, the Parkers, the Nocionis, and we were getting Efthimios Rentzias, or drafting Edin Bavcic.

5) the best for last--his farging idiotic decision of NOT tanking in the second part of last year = no playoff, no high pick. He lately tried to trade up, and of course couldn't do it.... so what was the purpose of those 30 wins after Iverson was gone?

best part is we got Kevin Ollie on the books for another 3 million...cute

ice grillin you

dalembert is one of the better centers in the nba and korver (who also was a good draft pick) is a very good shooter that every team needs...in fact hes the only sixer that can make a shot...plus as far as bad nba contracts go korvers is worth peanuts

his two really big mistakes were webber and kenny thomas...the rest of his moves were pretty much non starters...lateral type moves...the only kind of moves their cap situation would allow

and he made some nice draft picks and did a great job clearing cap space

dont underestimate the moves he didnt make either...over the last two years he could have sacrificed the future by getting big contract guys that would have made the team better in terms of wins short term but would have hurt the franchise long term....he didnt do that....he basically commmitted job suicide by putting the sixers future ahead of his own and ill always respect him for that

reese/cole the fact that you list the webber trade as one of his good moves precludes you from speaking on the topic at hand

he was not a very good gm...but he wasnt satan either...stop jumping on the hate bandwagon because it was/is the cool thing to do

If Snyder thinks this team is better than they are then why fire King?  If they have talent then obviously the coaching staff isn't getting them to perform.

I think King has done a wretched job but the timing of this move is what makes no sense.  Unless his replacement wasn't cleared to speak to the Sixers until now, why fire him now instead of after last season's debacle?

ice grillin you

i agree with that

they should have fired him last year or even two years ago...but once you let him clear all the cap space trade iverson and draft four guys this past year why not give him the opportunity to build a team from scratch....something hes never had a chance to do....the timing is definitely curious
