Why?

I don't get how it is that the AFC has become so dominant.  They play the same game by the same rules as the NFC, they draw from the same pool of players coaches trainers, etc.       Still, the AFC makes the NFC look like almost like a minor league.

Better coaches. It's just the way things have fallen but the AFC has far and away the best coaches.

I think it's just one of those things where there is always going to be one conference who is the dominant conference over an extended period of time.  Going back to SB 31, the AFC has a record of 8-3.  Prior to that, the NFC had won the previous 12 straight Super Bowls. 

It's a trend that happens in all sports.  In baseball the AL is currently superior to the NL and in the NBA, the West is superior to the East and it's been that way for quite a few years now.  Eventually they'll all trade places again.

I weren't expecting much of a discussion from you fargers, to be sure.  But "they get better coaches," being the most serious comment so far, just seems too pat for me.

Do they get better scouts, trainers, and GMs too??

If a couple of teams in a couple of divisions get real good, it forces the owners of the other teams to spend more money on better coaches, facilities, and players to remain competitive.

On the other hand, the Gold Standard has really only had to hit 8-8 to not only make the playoffs, but win the division every year.

How about after 12 years of losing the SB, the AFC teams in general got to draft higher than the NFC in general, and stocked up with better players.  The shift will happen when that boom ages out of the game.

There is absolutely no correlation between drafting early and success, especially in the salary cap era. Just look at the Oakland raiders, cleveland browns, etc.
In fact b/c high draft picks take up such a large amount of a teams cap in garunteed money, and rookies have such a high rate for failure, they often keep teams at the bottom, continuing to draft high.
The eagles, colts, patriots, by continually drafting late get much better performance per dollar out of thier picks. Or so says those two economists who wrote that analysis last year.
