I forgot Leslie Nielsen as Dr. Rumack in "Airplane!".

"The very existence of flamethrowers proves that some time, somewhere, someone said to themselves, "You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I'm just not close enough to get the job done.""  R.I.P George.

I have to admit that I was hoping for some more obscure references.

"I really liked Darth Vader because he was the scariest!"

Oh well, I backed Jules Winfield and Ripley so I'm just as much to blame as the rest of you unoriginal jackoffs.

Ah! farg you're right. Gary Oldman as Drexl was amazing. In fact, Oldman is one of my favorite actors and I'd add at least one other of his characters to my list. Stansfeld in The Professional.

-- When I saw this thread title... that's one of the 1st I thought about.  He was great in that role.

Oldman was good in that movie (known in most of the rest of the world as 'Leon', its original title), but I have to say I liked Portman and Reno better.

I guess "Rome" would qualify as a series.... but still:

James Purefoy (Marc Anthony), Simon Woods (Octavian/Augustus), Kerry Condon (Octavia) were good as well.... despite the liberties that the wroters have taken, they might be quite close in character to what the historical persons might have been....

Great call on Rome. I loved Kevin McKidd and Ray Stevenson in that too. Terrific roles. Purefoy was great also.

Badass roles:

Denzel in Man on Fire as Creasy
Tom Cruise as Vincent in Collateral
Jason Statham as Frank from the Transporter
Tom Cruise in The Last Samurai

Drama roles:

Morgan Freeman as Red in The Shawshank Redemption
Ed Norton as Derrick in American History X
Bill Murray as Bob Harris in Lost in Translation
Kevin Spacey in American Beauty
Calling it right on the $ since day one.
Just pointing laughing, and living it up while watching the Miami Heat stink it up.

Munson

I forgot one of my all time favorites.

John Patrick Mason, General Sir.

perhaps you could explain sd's reasons for "disliking" it as well since you seem to be so in tune with other peoples minds

Someday I'll learn.

Right - and some day Andy Reid will morph into Woody Hayes.

Dude, Claude Raines isn't obscure enough?  For you under 30's?  Really?
Anyone but Reid.

i was going to do these two this morning...especially Tuco.  he really makes what i think is the best of that trilogy.  you love him, hate him, root for him and against him all at different times during that movie.  he's both funny and scary.  one of the best characters in a movie ever.
