while those shows may have been good the fact that pretty much every person that has ever seen the wire thinks its the GOAT tv show kept it on

its not like the wire was just good or even great and they left it on...it was the BEST...i think the suits at HBO even recognized that and were like theres no way we can take this show off
i can take a phrase thats rarely heard...flip it....now its a daily word

igy gettin it done like warrick

not disagreeing, but i've been very disappointed in how HBO has handled other shows, and wish some got The Wire treatment.

and if they were in the same stratosphere as the wire they may have

no viewers good show = death

no viewers best show ever = five seasons

first off lucky louie sucked. louis ck is perhaps the funniest man alive but the show was awful.

second is the reason the wire hung around was because of the reviews. the fact that simon could run the show on a small budget and kept things within line helped (thats what helped kill deadwood), but hbo is all about perception. the perception of quality. the wire gave that to them. people might not have watched it, but when hearing about it the buzz was 100% this is the greatest thing ever. that gave off the impression that hbo lived in a different stratosphere of existence than everyone else, which is exactly how they sell themselves.

shows like carnivale and the like were solid across the board. ultimately solid doesnt cut it. also they came around 10 years too late. with on demand and dvr, which hbo counts as legit, only really crappy shows are gonna get got. middling stuff like hung and bored to death can pick so many extra viewers outside of the original airing that they overall do well enough to stay on.

also every time someone likes a show that gets got they whine about hows its handled. maybe it wasnt that good. maybe not enough people watched it. how about that you stupid mexican.
Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

It was JFC that hunted mexicans

And has anyone ever watched Epiphatos?  I always saw it on the HBO Spanish channel, but ive been seeing it on the regular broadcast lately

that show was terrible, too.

What is this? I was digging around on IMDB and saw "The Wire: The Chronicles" and it says it has three episodes.

John Doman (Rawls) is from Philly, by the way.

I don't know if I would call it the GOAT, then again I would be hard pressed to name one better.

It's over for me. I finished the final 3 episodes last night. Now I am going to start back at season 1 and watch all the episodes with the commentaries and bonus features.

What a great farging show. Without a doubt the best ever on TV.

A few things about Season Five:

1. I liked how he ended the show. He let us know what went down with everyone and how they progressed or regressed in some cases.

2. How sad was it that Dukie went to the needle with the junk man? I thought that he'd end up back in school after Mike went his own way. When he showed up at the school to ask Prez for help, I thought for sure he'd come back. His job search was admirable and he tried to go right but damn. His discussion with Prez...you could tell he wasn't going for his GED.

3. Omar's death shocked me. A true "oh shtein!" moment. I swear, not 2 minutes before he got capped I told my girl "I hope he tracks Marlo's bitch ass down"...and then he caught one.

4. Speaking of Omar - I liked how Mike seemed to be the "new" Omar. And him capping Snoop "how's my hair look?" was great.

5. Templeton...what an annoying bitch.

6. McNulty's game was good but even when it got too deep I hoped he'd get away with it. I was surprised to see Kima snitch him off. But his effort was what unraveled everything.

7. Slim Charles popping Cheese in the head. Good. He deserved it for having Prop Joe done in.

I could type all night about this show.

One question though...

What was the deal with Marlo at the end? When he walked out of the social event with Levy and went to the street. Was that supposed to mean that the business world wasn't for him and he'd always be in the game on the streets?

people came to both conclusions. im pretty sure simon never said what he meant. whatever you think, basically.

youll notice when you rewatch season the first time you see omar (episode 3?) he shoots dook in the stashhouse in the knee just as michael deos at the end of the show

as for marlo i think that was his last hurrah on the corner...making one last visit before he knew it was all over forever...simon has said that the great irony in the ending was that marlo got what stringer always wanted and stringer ended up dead a fate that marlo always thought would happen to him at a young age

Wow...that's true, I didn't even think of Stringer/Marlo.

Now I can read Sepinwall's blog , the veteran version, so I won't have any spoilers.
