Just to end the speculation, I looked up baseballreference.com:

Teixeira played 15 games at 3B in his rookie season (2003).  He had 7 errors and a total fielding percentage of .811.

I don't think that, fielding-wise, Teixeira would have been a viable alternative.  Yes, the bat is attractive, but the glove wasn't there.

Why couldn't he play third exactly?  He's a gold glove first baseman but there's no way in your mind he couldn't make the transition to third?

Come on, Ed.

Using that thinking, you could also easily put Pujols, Derrek Lee and Doug Mientkiewicz at 3B, right?

All three would be better than Helms.

Teixera turned down 8 years and $140M from the Rangers. No way he gets that in Philly and no way is he worth that cash either. But its moot because they have nothing close to getting him so whatever.

Anyways, I didn't watch the game today because I had to sleep. It appears that I missed nothing...except a Burrell HR. I haven't even checked the box out yet, but it appears Gallardo shut 'em down.

Whatever. 5 games out now.

Yeah, he pretty much sawed off their bats the whole game.  Too bad, becaues Kendrick pitched well enough to earn a win (2 ER in 7 innings).  The sticks just weren't there tonight.

This season is ridiculous. Now Burrell is the most consistent hitter on this team.

Calm down kids. Win today and they face a zesty pitcher Sunday. Can still take 2/3. Optimism wooo.
Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

They're also going to miss Smoltz and Hudson next weekend since both will be facing the Mets...

Black Dunn destroyed a pitch to dead center to tie the game at 1

Mets lost today

Should be enough considering Bush sucks and Myers is game.

Colbert blew up a little in the 6th, giving up three runs.  He still has the lead thanks to a good diving catch by Roberson (Victorino probably wouldn't have to dive, since he plays so shallow, but Roberson plays a deeper RF).  Phils up 5-4.

Hamels came back out in the 7th (amazingly enough for Cholly) and put the Brewers down in order.

 :-D :-D :-D

HR Prince to take the lead off of Flash.

fastball in the b8th w/ 2 outs

Goddamn Wheels and his "no doubles defense" and "just dropped the bat head on it" comments anger me.

Geowhizzer

Gordon just gave up a 2-run bomb to Fielder to give the Brewers a 6-5 lead.  :-\

How many leads has the bullpen blown on Colbert?

MDS

Saw that one coming from a mile away. Gordon is obviously shot. To keep running him out there and for the front office to say getting him back was good enough is exactly why this team will never win anything.
