The BIGSTUD

He was a free agent after this upcoming season and maybe they extended him and moved money around to free up more cap room.
Calling it right on the $ since day one.
Just pointing laughing, and living it up while watching the Miami Heat stink it up.

I like it. I think Garcia shot his wad. Feeley looks good everytime he comes into a game, and with McNabb having been hurt the last two seasons and coming off knee surgery, the backup qb is a very important position for this team.

If this this town/media/fans start arguing about who the backup QB should be and create some sort of controversy about it then I'd say that we've reached levels of stupidity that were previously unfathomable.

If McNabb can't start the season it wouldn't be a controversy about the backup.

But still, McNabb has played one full season in the past three. Anyone who can't see how important the backup position is to this team better look harder at the depth chart. Every year that he's been here, I've commented on how I want Feeley as the #2, and every year I'm ridiculed for wanting to debate the backup position. Well, the last two years it's been one of the most important positions on this team, even it it sounds umfathomably stupid.

Feeley said on his conference call that he was promised the #2 spot in 2007 when he signed last summer.  Eskin got one right for once....

Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

I haven't listened to WIP in years. I'm just saying, whatever that moron says, will be crap.

Feeley given contract extension; Garcia unlikely to be re-signed

Quote

"A.J. Feeley has been very productive as a starting quarterback in Philadelphia," said general manager Tom Heckert. "He's won some games at crucial times for this franchise and he gives us a great amount of confidence as a back-up to Donovan McNabb. A.J.'s proven to be very comfortable in this offensive scheme and we look forward to having him in the fold for the next several years."
It doesn't make a differencw to me if the #2 is Feeley or Garcia but doesn't this statement seem a little odd to anyone but me? Couldn't exactly the same statement have been made about Garcia?
Note to Jeffy, when you sign with Denver, make sure you get a promise to be the #2 the next year also. Because we all know that all NFL teams always keep thier promises.

Here's Mike Fierro's take on it: http://www.nj.com/columns/expresstimes/fierro/index.ssf?

The thing is, Garcia and his agent wouldn't give the Eagles the same committment that they asked them for, so the Eagles gave Feeley 7.2M, with a 2M SB, according to Adam Schefter on NFL.com.  The pros for Feeley is that he's younger, got a stronger arm at this point in his career, and seems to play well within the Eagles' system. I discount his Miami experience, simply because Dave Wannstadt never wanted him and yo-yoed him and Jay Fiedler in and out of the lineup. When they played the Jets' scrubs last year, Garcia couldn't do anything against them, yet Feeley came in with no practice time and led the team on 3 scoring drives. In 2002, when he was still on the Eagles practice squad, the Bears had wanted to sign him on to their 53 man squad--but he refused to go, saying he was comfortable in the Eagles system.

IMHO, Garcia wrote his own ticket out of town when he went on national TV and said it was his intention to test the FA waters before he and the team ever got around to discussing any kind of extension--then he multiplied that by saying in another interview "they won't be able to take advantage of me this year like they did last year". So I don't know how they took advantage of him. That mystified me--there were only two teams that offered him a contract in '06--the Eagles and the Texans. I think he got caught up in his own hype machine when he believed all of the media reports that said several teams might be interested in him as a starter--well, Minny, Chicago, Tampa Bay--3 places that he was rumored to go to--have now said they're not interested.  But I do know that it takes two to tango--if they had wanted a deal done with the Eagles, Baker, who called the Eagles "tough to negotiate with, but they're fair and honest with you", could have made an offer and the Eagles could have negotiated with them.

"tough to negotiate with, but they're fair and honest with you"

translation:

"They make their offer based on their advanced mathematical algorithm, and if you don't like it, Joe Banner belittles you verbally until you either take the offer or cut off negotiations."

more translation:

"fair" = The offer is on the low side of a remotely-acceptable range of the player's worth.

"honest" = They give the offer in black and white and make it quite clear that it's a take it or leave it scenario.

Does anyone really think they were going to re-sign Garcia after the way he played down the stretch last year?

I mean, come on.  2007 was Feeley's gig all along because he's a nice, safe, unthreatening security blanky for Donovan.
