mcnabb has shown how petty he can be and imo he didnt like the fact that in two months garcia became a hero in a city that mcnabb hasnt been able to warm up to in eight years (not that mcnabb has ever tried)...its clear that had garcia come back it would have gotten ugly...the first time mcnabb made a mistake or had a bad game the calls for garcia would have been overwhelming...but dont get me wrong i think thats a valid reason for not having him back..he isnt a good enough player where you would keep him and be willing to put up with the qb controversy that he would bring...

the fact that the eagles literally didnt even make an offer to garcia proves all this imo

im sure the eagles didnt make the offer to avoid any controversy but also because they will not pay a backup the kind of money garcia deserves. i doubt mcnabb cares if he comes back or not.....cause he knows he is the starter no matter what.

its more the money then what mcnabb might or might not feel.

Supposedly Garcia got the same deal Simms did....2 yrs, $10M+ w/incentives

Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

...and minutes later, Tampa Bay traded for Plummer, so they now have 5 QBs  :-D

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Former CFL star Jeff Garcia is disappointed he never got a contract offer from the Philadelphia Eagles after leading them to five straight wins and a playoff victory following Donovan McNabb's season-ending knee injury.

"I was surprised I wasn't offered a contract. There was never anything to negotiate over," Garcia said Monday in an interview with Comcast SportsNet. "We never know what it would've amounted to. It wasn't about the money. It was about being in a great situation."

The Eagles agreed to a three-year contract extension with backup quarterback A.J. Feeley on Sunday, eliminating the chance Garcia would return to Philadelphia. Garcia, who turned 37 on Saturday, will become a free agent Friday.

"We just wanted to have a reasonable opportunity to be respected, to be appreciated for what took place last year," Garcia said. "Are there other reasons why I wasn't offered a contract? We'll never know."

A three-time Pro Bowl quarterback in San Francisco, Garcia revived his career in Philadelphia. He completed 61.7 per cent of his passes for 1,309 yards, 10 touchdowns and two interceptions.

The Eagles were 5-5 and seemingly out of the playoff picture when McNabb tore a knee ligament on Nov. 19. But with Garcia leading the way, they captured their fifth NFC East title in six years and advanced to the second round of the playoffs.

Garcia played under a one-year contract after miserable one-year stints in Cleveland and Detroit. His hard-nosed, gritty style quickly made him a fan favourite in Philadelphia

If I'm remembering right, per Heckert, they told the Garcia camp to make a proposal before free agency. Garcia instead waited for the Eagles to make a move, wanting to check out FA first. The FO said screw it and just locked up Feeley instead. I think Feeley was a FA too and they didn't want to risk loosing both or else having to pay alot more than they would with a pre-FA deal.

iirc, it was a two year deal when Feeley signed, so he wasn't a FA.

I was in favor of the Eagles letting Garcia go.  No worries about him not coming back.  BUT, if the eagles told him to make an offer, that's kinda slimy negotiation rules.  The employer should make the first move, and it was apparent (again, if true) that the Eagles either wanted him checp or not at all.  By putting the first play in Garcia's hands, they basically guarenteed to get him cheap if he were to stay.

Not to say I wouldn't (and haven't) have done the same thing, but that surprises me a little.

It's like they almost had to tell him to make a proposal though. Dude went out and said he felt that he was taken advantage of by playing for what he played for last year. Which is hilarious considering he looked like death warmed over in Cleveland and Detroit.

Then the guy has the balls to ask the Raiders to not draft a QB. Listen up, Garcia...you're 37 years old. Telling a franchise to not draft a QB is ridiculous. What is funny is that he then signs with Tampa Bay who already has Chris Simms and then trades for Plummer.

Even though there are rumors that the Bucs will now trade Plummers rights to Oakland. And then we have the fact that Plummer is supposedly retiring. Either way Garcia has to fight for a job again with someone else. He'll probably win but we'll see exactly how much he has left.

Going with Feeley was the right move, IMO.

Okay--I don't see it posted on here, so you guys can now debate this from Joe Banner:

http://www.nbc10.com/news/11159966/detail.html

Eagles President Joe Banner spoke with NBC 10 Friday night about why Garcia would not be back with the team.

"Jeff was anxious to explore free agency, as he said many times in many interviews, including going on Jay Leno and saying it. So, that's what he wanted to do," Banner said. "Whatever version of the story may be out there now, he was pretty clear and pretty public about that, and he's getting the chance to do that now.

"That was really the key factor, and I don't fault them because I would have done the exact same thing in his shoes, but that was kind of a decision that left us having to make some decisions to protect ourselves in the long-run at that position," Banner added.

translation: banner didnt like garcia gettin all uppity on leno so he cut all ties with him

what is banner talking about protecting themselves at that position??...the back up qb spot?...the same way they protected themselves with mike macmahon?...you already have a solid nfl back up on your roster in feely who isnt going anywhere and yet you have to protect yourself against a 37 year old back up hitting free agency??

as for garcia he is so phony its not even funny...hes a good pr guy but who else was sickened at his tb presser yesterday when he says something to the effect of its so great to sign with a team in a city and a state that thrive on football...basically the same shtein almost verbatim that he said about philly

Tampon's such a great football city that a 32 year-old QB would rather retire than play there.
