Shaw PSU - 4.49

He will be nothing in the NFL.  Nothing.  I don't care what his 40 time is.

You have to be impressed with him playing DE at 230+ lbs and giving the effort he gave. I only saw 3 or 4 games last year, but he impressed me.  It reminded of when Ike Reese had to play DE in a pinch and he held his own.  This team needs to really improve LB depth to play special teams. I'll take a football player like that any day of the week.

Ok, his best-case scenario is a white Ike Reese.

The BIGSTUD

Landry ran a 4.35 or a 4.32 today. Can't remember which. Either way he did real good in the 40 times. Just bringing him up because he was talked about as a possible Eagles pick.
Calling it right on the $ since day one.
Just pointing laughing, and living it up while watching the Miami Heat stink it up.

They won't trade up for a safety, and they'd have to trade up to get Landry.  Dammit.

There were several safeties that showed good athleticism, especially some of the small school guys. I'm very curious to see where Griffin and Merriweather go.  A DB is IMO the most likely area to address with the 1st round pick at this time.

Plan and simple...since this thread IS about the draft...if Stallworth is gone, I want Meachem.

Hell no.

They already used this year's 4th rounder on Stallworth.  Using any pick above that to "replace" him would be idiotic.

So assuming Stallworth is gone, you're prepared to go into the season without any ttype of deep threat? Brown has the speed, but will see double teams...Bloom? He'll return kicks, but won't see a lick of the field on offense.

I like Baskett and Avant, and they could possibly prove to be #2's in an offense with a star WR with some speed. But this offense doesn't have that, they have a damn good #2 WR in Reggie Brown. They'll need a guy like Meachem to burn some guys along side Brown, and if the Eagles have the opertunity to get a 6'4 WR that ran a sub 4.4 40 time, then I don't see a reason to pass that up. It's not like any defender they draft at the 26th spot will make a difference, thier track record picking defensive front 7 isn't much better then thier track record at picking WR's. And Meachem > Freddie Mitchell.

perhaps you could explain sd's reasons for "disliking" it as well since you seem to be so in tune with other peoples minds

If they draft any WR not named Calvin Johnson, they'll still go into this season without any ttype (sic) of deep threat.  There is no way in hell a guy like Meachem could learn enough of the offense quickly to make a major impact this season.  Besides, no receiver in the draft would be nearly the "deep threat" of Stallworth, who runs 4.4 on a bad day and has the moves to fake DB's out of their jocks.  I can't imagine they couldn't find more a sure thing in free agency, and even if they can't, the team's better off using the hell out of Westbrook than looking to the draft for an impact player.

Meachem has proven precisely dick.  You're talking about him like he's a sure thing slam dunk super awesome #1 deep threat in the history of the NFL.  Get this through your extremely dense skull:  EVEN IF THEY DRAFT A WR EARLY, HE WILL NOT PLAY A SIGNIFICANT ROLE IN THE OFFENSE THIS SEASON.  With all the investments they've made on the offensive line and in Donovan and Westbrook and with L.J. in a contract year, the offense should be able to be adequate without Stallworth, as compared to the defense, which needs a TON of help.  Defensive players have a much better chance of making an impact of some sort in year one, and the Eagles need help on the defense very badly.  Drafting a WR in round one would be idiotic.

And there is absolutely no way to know Meachem > Freddie Mitchell.  Assuming that sort of thing is part of the reason you're a dumbass about this.

ice grillin you

Brown has the speed, but will see double teams

has the speed to do what?...he certainly isnt a burner

reggie brown does not warrant double teams...which is precisely why you need stallworth...he is that player

baskett is a borderline nfl player much less a number 2 guy...and avant is at best a solid possesion guy

do you purposely say things that are the opposite of true or are you really that dumb

Diomedes

Another reason you don't have to double Reggie is that, even should the pass get by the defender, he can be counted on to drop the pass at a high enough percentage that you might as well not waste the second defender on him.

Maybe the Eagles are planning on running the ball 35 times a game?

Hey, it could happen.

:D

ice grillin you

that would be nice...but even with their great offensive line and the gawd westbrook to run the ball you have to have some threat of a passing game...and aj feely throwing to hank baskett and jason avant isnt gonna get it done

William Thomas to Cleveland for Jerevicous and their 2nd round pick.  :paranoid

PhillyPhanInDC

I found this three round mock on DraftDaddy. Needless to say, I would get wood:

Round 1:
Quote
26. Philadelphia Eagles – Michael Griffin SS/FS Texas
-Michael Lewis is a free agent and Brian Dawkins is growing long in the tooth. Griffin is a guy who helped his stock at the Senior Bowl and he would be an ideal fit for the Eagles in this spot.
Round 2:
Quote
57. Philadelphia Eagles – Brian Leonard HB/FB Rutgers
-Leonard's a 1st round athlete playing a 2nd day position. Leonard's fall stops here as he'd provide an excellent compliment to Westbrook and wound fit right in as a full-back/h-back in Philly's west coast offense. Leonard is too good of a value here and a guy Reid will love.
Round 3:
Quote
90. Philadelphia Eagles – Rufus Alexander OLB Oklahoma
-Dhani Jones is below average and Gocong was injured last year. Alexander will compete for a job with both Gaither and Gocong.
