Peter King picks the Eagles

QuotePhiladelphia (7-6) at New York (7-6)
Maybe I'm overselling Jeff Garcia, but this three-game starting streak he's on? Donovan McNabb had a great opening-season stretch this year, but it wasn't better than the last 12 quarters played by Garcia.

Philadelphia 27, New York Giants 20

You damn skippy he's overselling Garcia.

Props to Garcia for playing good ball in McNabb's absence so far... but McNabb was the early season MVP... and was leading the league in TD passes when he got hurt.  The offense... if not more consistent... was sure as hell more explosive.

"Yards dont win games, points do"

Dude, thats one of the dumbest things I have ever heard.

Yards = Points = Losses.

Ive read every post in this thread so far (not sure why), and you just dont get it. Saying the Eagles D sucks doesnt make you a bad fan. It makes you an educated fan....and even that is debatable bacause my 3 year old cousin could tell me how bad the D has been this year.

You can go on thinking your SuperFan and continue to preach your ridiculus views about this team, but do us all a favor - take off the green glasses and watch the game objectively on Sunday. If the team plays like it has been over the past few weeks, I cant imagine you'll have the same views.

I don't remember calling anybody a "bad fan", but okay.... ??? I've already said the defense sucks this year. I've agreed with it when said. But I also know they've palyed better in the last two weeks then they have since...god knows when. Making big plays, forcing turnovers, keeping the offense in the game enough to give them a chance to win it. That's NOT something they've been doing most of the year.

I just think it's stupid to be so down on a team that has won 2 in a row and is playing a team that's only beaten one team in the last month, the same crappy team we beat. The Giants aren't THAT good. This game could go either way, it's not some lopsided Giants lock to win.

And no, yardage does not = points. Getting in the endzone=points. Yardage is a stat padder. They can give up all the yardage they want, as long as they keep the opposing team out of the endzone and give up field goals or create turnovers and make the big stop/big play. That's how both of the last two wins have ended...a turnover and a big stop/play.

Of course, it's up to the offense to score as much as they have been hte last few weeks too. Which they can as long as Garcia continues to keep the mistakes to a minimum, and Reid runs Westbrook.

perhaps you could explain sd's reasons for "disliking" it as well since you seem to be so in tune with other peoples minds

ice grillin you

unless you have a fg kicker that has range out to 80 yards then im sorry but yardage does mean a ton....yes pts are obviously most important...even you know that...but you need yards to get to the place where the points are...ie the red zone

can you occasionally get outyarded and still win against a crappy team sure...but thats rare and against quality opponents you have to get pts which come from moving the ball and getting yards and in turn stopping the other team from doing the same
i can take a phrase thats rarely heard...flip it....now its a daily word

Christ- I got 3 pages in and now even I'm depressed... LOL

I hope the Eagles come out with that same "we already lost" attitude.

Maybe the voices aren't real, but, they've got some pretty good ideas...

For the record, the Eagles are 3rd in the league in YPG. They're 7-6
And the Falcons lead the leag in rush YPG with almost 200. They're 7-6

So, like I siad....the Eagles can let the Giants get 200+ rushing yards for all I care...as long as the defense can do what it has done the laast couple weeks, make some big stops and force a couple turnovers.

the eagles are 30th in rush yard defense
the falcons are last i believe in pass yard defense

so its not surprising that both teams are around 500 as they are good in one aspect and horrible in the other....its not just about getting yards its about giving up yards....do well in both and you have a really good team

are yards the end all be all...no...but to suggest in anyway that yards arent ultra important is retarded

Forget what the D has done the past few weeks. That kind of effort will not cut it on Sunday. That kind of effort will get us beaten by 17.

Yards aren't ultra important...points are. You can drive to the oppenents 20, 15, 10 yard line all you want...but if you can't put the ball into the endzone from there, and/or if you throw an INT or cough the ball up....you're not going to win the game. As I've repeated over and over, I think the defense will do just enough to keep the offense in the game, just as they have the last few weeks. Iti should be a good game, probably won by a 1-7 point margin.

Also, Tiki/Jacobs will not be rushing for 200 yards this week, if this team has any heart at all. They held them once, they should have the confidence to do it again.

Die-Hard, it doesn't matter who's getting the yards, as long as the defense can come up with the turnovers/big plays, and give the ball back to the offense. Continue to do enough to keep the Eagles in the game.

Holy Hell you guys talk about the Giants like they're the friggin Chargers. :sly

Eli Manning + Numerous injuries on an already zesty Oline + Numerous injuries on the dline = Not a great team. An average team. Like the Eagles.

Giants=average
Eagles=average

Stop overrating the Giants.

amazingly, at least one, maybe both of these teams will make the playoffs.

And even more amazingly, both would have a chance at winning thier first round games, against an underachieving Seahawks team, and a Dallas team who's QB is finally playing like a new QB should be playing...like shtein.

earlier in this thread, a smart cat said that neither of these teams deserves ANY credit for anything good that's happened to them.

both teams are weak, both suck, neither of them deserve to play post season games at all, etc.

I'm not quite sure any team in the NFC deserves a post-season game, besides the Saints and Bears. Maybe the Cowboys, but it looks like the NFL might have caught up to Romo.

Should be some exciting playoff games. :crazy
