QuoteKKK group to hold meeting in county building Friday

By jane Bellmyer jbellmyer@cecilwhig.com | Posted: Wednesday, December 18, 2013 4:58 pm

ELKTON — A group with ties to to Ku Klux Klan will hold a public meeting Friday night in the Cecil County Administration building.

The Confederate White Knights have reserved the Elk Room for the 7 p.m. meeting, according to the group's website.

Richard Preston, imperial wizard of the 2-year-old group, said the meeting will focus on illegal immigration and President Barack Obama.

"Barack Hussein Obama is an illegal president," Preston said. "He needs to be removed from office. We also want 'Obamacare' shut down. It's against citizen's rights."

"On top of that, we want the laws toughened on immigration," he added. "We're flooded with illegal immigrants and our people can't find jobs."

Preston insists CWK is not about skin color.

"It's not about race. It's about America," he said. "It's time for the American people to stand up."

1st Sgt. Jimmy Russell, with the Maryland State Police's North East barrack, said the FBI has made law enforcement agencies aware of the group's presence and its intentions to hold a meeting.

"They said to expect from 40 to 200 people," he said. "They are not worried about (Preston). They are more worried about the people that could show up."

Preston previously held a "rally" in September at Antietam National Battlefield near Sharpsburg, however, at which only eight Klansmen, according to a Baltimore Sun report.

Al Wein, director of administration for Cecil County, cited the First Amendment right to peaceable assembly and free speech as the reason for giving CWK permission to use the meeting room.

"The First Amendment also prohibits local government from discriminating against an organization's right of free speech and peaceable assembly on public property, no matter how offensive the message may be," read a prepared statement from the county administration office.

Lt. Michael Holmes, spokesman for the Cecil County Sheriff's Office, said there will be a police presence Friday at the county building to maintain order.

The meeting is being held inside, Preston said.

"This is our first time as a meeting," Preston said. "We usually do rallies."

Besides the demonstration at Antietam, Preston organized a rally at Gettysburg Battlefield in Pennsylvania. He said he chose to hold the meeting in Cecil County because of its "conservative mindset."

"There's lots of good farmers and old people who understand if we don't straighten out, we're not going to be a country anymore," he said.

Preston aims to dispel the old image of the KKK, claiming his group is against Neo-Nazism and the National Socialist Movement. His Rosedale-based group is a combination of KKK groups from Delaware, Virginia and West Virginia.

The CWK website clearly spells out the requirements for joining the organization, including being 100-percent heterosexual of European heritage and neither Muslim, Jewish, Communist or Satanist.

"Just because we're a certain way in our group, doesn't mean we hate other groups," Preston said. "I think the people that do come will be surprised."

if you want people to know that its not about race you may want to change the name of your group to something other than the ku klux klan

Preston basically was saying we're misunderstood LOL.  Also, how is what he said any different than Rush or the rest of the chronies.

As far as using the room, its their right, they pay taxes.  When I was growing up, Rising Sun was basically the capital of the KKK in the Mid Atlantic, the town has come a long way from those days.

QuotePhil Robertson, star of A&E's hit reality show Duck Dynasty, has been suspended indefinitely after publication of anti-gay comments sparked an uproar.

"Start with homosexual behavior and just morph out from there. Bestiality, sleeping around with this woman and that woman and that woman and those men," Robertson told a reporter from GQ in a rant that included him explaining why he prefers a vagina to a man's anus.

GLAAD spokesman Wilson Cruz applauded the cable network's decision. "What's clear is that such hateful anti-gay comments are unacceptable to fans, viewers, and networks alike," he said. "By taking quick action and removing Robertson from future filming, A&E has sent a strong message that discrimination is neither a Christian nor an American value."

Robertson is clearly an influential pop culture figure, especially to those on the far right who celebrate his full-throated anti-abortion rights stands. His family's endorsement of Republican Vance McAllister for Congress helped the candidate win a recent special election.

But he's an entertainer famous for his irascibility and his duck calls.

Dave Agema, on the other hand, is the Republican National Committeeman from Michigan.

Earlier this year, the former member of Michigan's state house posted a message on Facebook that linked to an article by a known white supremacist who listed a series of statistics fabricated to make the case that homosexuals are filthy.

The Republican National Committee responded within days — by unanimously approving Agema's resolution denouncing same-sex marriage.

This month Agema made a speech where he said gay people want free health care because they're dying of AIDS when they're 30-44 years old as a segue into explaining that he's against same-sex marriage because it's "a Biblical issue."

The committeeman's website features a link where people can "do the research" about traditional marriage. Among the "research" is a series of links about homosexuals and HIV/AIDS.

The argument seems to be that the LGBT community should be denied marriage and health care because they can get a disease (one that straight people can—and do—easily contract as well). The implication being that the disease is a judgment from God that should inform policy decisions made in 2013. This anachronistic view prospered in the 1980s when the Reagan White House refused to even say the word "AIDS," often laughing at the mention of the epidemic.

While Agema doesn't connect the dots as colorfully as Duck Dynasty's Robertson, he's making the same arguments: Being gay is a sinful "lifestyle" that should not be encouraged. And he's going a step further than the reality star, and calling for actual punishment by the government by withholding health care and the right to marry. (Because conservatives believe the out-of-control government should not interfere in people's private lives, remember?)

Robertson's power comes from his ability to attract ratings. His comments threatened that, so A&E acted to stop the bleeding. But his opinions are just his opinions.

Agema has actual power to influence the policy of one of the two major political parties in America. How did the Republican Party react to his "outreach" to the gay community?

Last weekend at a meeting of the Michigan GOP, Agema was punished with — a partial standing ovation. Yes, he "received a standing ovation from some party members who carried signs showing a U.S. flag and Agema's name, and polite applause from others," according to the LivingstonDaily.com.

Some Republicans in the state have condemned the committeeman's comments but others call him "a prophet." But no prominent Republican is asking him to step down, even temporarily.

It comes down to this: If you're a reality star, you're held to a higher standard than a Republican Party official.

Its probably around 90% I'd guess just looking at some of the hunting message boards that I go to.  Everyone talks about the assault to the christian religion.  Fox News has won
