QuoteDo you really think the US government is capable of being transparent, regardless of who is in charge?

Regardless of who is in charge? No. With Obama in charge? Yes. Or at least much of our government.

"Should" is one thing.  "Can" is another.

I do not believe the US government, regardless of party, is capable of being transparent because every bill passed has earmarks or pork embedded in it.

Transparency indeed:

Missing White House Docs

Quote
n his first weeks in office, President Barack Obama shut down his predecessor's system for reviewing regulations, realigned and expanded two key White House policymaking bodies and extended economic sanctions against parties to the conflict in the African nation of Cote D'Ivoire.

Despite the intense scrutiny a president gets just after the inauguration, Obama managed to take all these actions with nary a mention from the White House press corps.

The moves escaped notice because they were never announced by the White House Press Office and were never placed on the White House web site.

I found that just surviving was a noble fight.
I once believed in causes too,
I had my pointless point of view,
And life went on no matter who was wrong or right.

I wasn't cynical about W the past eight years merely because cynicism is easy. It also didn't take me six years to recognize his incompetence.

CNN keeps running these stories about Republican Congressmen and the RNC saying that Obama isn't doing well or has been disappointing so far.

Meanwhile several (not all, obviously) Republican Governors across the country are applauding the stimulus bill, Obama has had a very aggressive first month of policy implementation, a successful new conference where he answered questions intelligently and displayed a firm grasp on the issues, and his polling numbers remain high.

So is the jilted Republican opinion of him that runs contrary to the public's opinion really newsworthy? Who are these people representing? I suppose since they got their asses handed to them on a platter in November they need to make themselves relevant again so what else could they possibly say right now, but still.

They have none, clearly, but reporting that Congressional Republicans (who have an approval rating in the 30s) don't approve of the new President (who has an approval rating in the 60s) is like reporting that the sky is blue.

I'm not mocking the Republicans as much as I'm mocking CNN for reporting it.

Well, just voice your support for the "Fairness Doctrine," so the government can make sure that the airwaves are fair and balanced.
