I don't think the debates will help or hurt either of them. People voted for Bush folks. He can barely string a sentance together. It was considered folksy.

If enough people watch Biden destroy Palin, it will.

Obama is too stuttering John to destroy McCain, but Biden is real good in those spots and he will make the phony whore eat her shtein.
Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

MadMarchHare

You're ignoring the rules they put in place.  The Repubs significantly cut down on Q&A to protect her, the Dems demanded podiums (???).

And besides, Biden's insane.  As I mentioned before, it's only a matter of time until she pisses him off, and he says something really stupid.  You know, like, "Shut up, woman!", or worse.

Get yo' popcorn ready.
Anyone but Reid.

I think Palin will do just fine.

I think I'm starting to lean towards Obama.  I like his economic proposals.  This is the first election in my lifetime that I think both candidates would do a good job.  Unlike Kerry/Bush when I had to vote libertarian.

The real truth is both Obama and McCain are farged.  Bush's reckless spending, Iraq War commitment and the banking/insurance bailouts will take all our $ plus all the new tax increase $'s.  No matter who wins it will be Bush III :puke :fire

I do agree. Whomever wins this thing gets saddled with a lot of problems and they might get those probloms hung around their necks by the end of their first term. It's a win lose.

WASHINGTON (AP) - Deep-seated racial misgivings could cost Barack Obama the White House if the election is close, according to an AP-Yahoo News poll that found one-third of white Democrats harbor negative views toward blacks—many calling them "lazy," "violent" or responsible for their own troubles.

The poll, conducted with Stanford University, suggests that the percentage of voters who may turn away from Obama because of his race could easily be larger than the final difference between the candidates in 2004—about 2.5 percentage points.

Racism Costs Obama 6 Points?

2. The study appears to be one of all adults, rather than registered or likely voters. Expressions of racial prejudice have a strong inverse correlation with education levels, and so do turnout rates. Therefore, even if it is true that Barack Obama's race puts him at something like a 6-point disadvantage with the population as a whole, the margin is probably more like 4-5 points among likely voters.

On the other side...

QuoteSpecifically, Obama overperformed:

1. In states with high African-American populations;
2. In states that share a border with Illinois (no, Kentucky doesn't count);
3. In states with highly educated electorates;
4. To a lesser extent, in the South (as indicated by the number of evangelicals), even after accounting for the above variables.

Meanwhile, he underperformed his polls:

1. In the Appalachian states (as indicated by the number of respondents who identify their ancestry as 'American', a practice concentrated in the Appalachian region);
2. In states with low education levels;
3. And in states with a high number of Catholics.

Obama has a small lead now, but when you factor these in, he wins big.  This article is by the guy who predicted the results for IN and NC when the polls were much more in favor of Clinton.

Conservative Columnist George Will rips McCain a new one...

QuoteUnder the pressure of the financial crisis, one presidential candidate is behaving like a flustered rookie playing in a league too high. It is not Barack Obama.

Channeling his inner Queen of Hearts, John McCain furiously, and apparently without even looking around at facts, said Chris Cox, chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission, should be decapitated. This childish reflex provoked the Wall Street Journal to editorialize that "McCain untethered" -- disconnected from knowledge and principle -- had made a "false and deeply unfair" attack on Cox that was "unpresidential" and demonstrated that McCain "doesn't understand what's happening on Wall Street any better than Barack Obama does."

its like an angel came down from heaven and dropped this gift in his lap...the fact that the economy is so far front and center now and has put everything else (palin excitement, improved safety in iraq, social issues ect...) on the back burner couldnt be working out better for him as the dems in general and barry in particular own that issue

mccain coming out and using this stump message of this do nothing congress and these long time washington insiders better watch out cause change is coming is such a friggin joke its not even funny

Get used to it home boy...

President Obama

I have to agree with MMH on this one - the biggest risk left in the campaign is the VP debate.  It could be a huge win for Obama, but a serious Biden gaffe could kill him.

Possibility of an Electoral Tie?

Yucky.

Oh that would just be lovely.

EDIT: You know what? That would actually be farging awesome. Especially the scenario where congress can't effectively decide on the President and the whole thing takes years to iron out. It would force a massive overhaul of the political process and maybe this assinine two party 'democracy' that doesn't effectively represent the middle-ground will of the people will be scrapped.
Is rjs gonna have to choke a bitch?

Let them eat bootstraps.
